Save the date: 14-15 September for the Special Cup 2024

The San Marino Special Cup returns to Montecchio – organised in partnership by the Football Federation, the Federazione Sammarinese Sport Speciali and Special Olympics San Marino. The five-a-side football tournament, featuring teams made up entirely of Special Olympics athletes, will once again light up the Federal Centre in Fonte dell'Ovo with an energy and enjoyment that are truly out of the ordinary. It confirms its status as a major attraction across the whole of Italy, with eleven teams from various Regions coming to challenge the San Marino side. Specifically, the teams entered in the tournament, in addition to San Marino, are: Soccer Dream Fermana, Albano Primavera, Sportinsieme Castellarano, Calcio Veneto FD, Associazione Fuorigioco ODC, Sport "In"…Veneto, Reggiana Calcio for Special, Parma Special, Meraki APS, Insuperabili and Polisportiva Olimpia Onlus. The competition is fully part of the activities linked to the FSGC’s social responsibility projects. "The Special Cup is not just one of the events co-organised and supported by the FSGC,” says Marco Tura, President of the San Marino Football Federation – “we truly regard it as one of our own annual activities, both because of the close understanding we enjoy with the FSSS leadership – a bond that is anything but ordinary – and because of the passion and the genuine emotions that the athletes never fail to give us. I believe that the whole country should recognise the merits of the Federazione Sammarinese Sport Speciali." The excellent relations and harmony that have always characterised the connection with the Football Federation are confirmed by the President of the FSSS, Filiberto Felici: "A bond of friendship that has grown stronger over time and which enables us to put on a well-structured and engaging event. In our ongoing activities we offer 16 different sports disciplines, with football among the most practised. Without doubt, the Special Cup is the most important event on our calendar, and without the multi-level support of the Football Federation none of this would be possible. Behind these two days of matches and smiles there is a great deal of work: it is not easy to coordinate so many athletes, their families, coaches and volunteers. The very purpose of our Federation,” Felici concludes, “is to encourage as many new athletes as possible to embrace sporting activity. The best way, as always, is to do so through close ties with the community and families: thanks above all to events like the Special Cup, families get in touch with us to introduce new athletes to sport." As can easily be seen, this event has a scope that extends well beyond sport alone and will unfold over a two-day programme. On Saturday 14 September, the group stage matches and subsequent semi-finals will take place, while the morning of Sunday 15 September will be dedicated to the finals, which will determine the final standings of the San Marino Special Cup 2024.
