Match Officials: Laura Cordani appointed for the Final Tournament of the Women's U17 EURO

Laura Cordani, an assistant referee from Piacenza who in recent years has become part of the San Marino refereeing family, has been appointed by the UEFA Referees Committee for the final tournament of the UEFA European Women's Under-17 Championship. The tournament, organised with two groups of four teams followed by semi-finals and a final, kicks off today and will run until 26 May, when the new queens of Europe will be crowned at Tallinn’s Lilleküla Stadium. As might be expected, Estonia is hosting the final tournament, and has been drawn in Group A together with Germany, Spain and Switzerland. Group B features Sweden, England, France and Poland. The group stage has begun today and this afternoon Laura Cordani has been appointed as second assistant referee for Sweden v France (Tartu Tamme Stadium, 17:30). The San Marino international is one of eight assistant referees selected by UEFA for this tournament, alongside six referees and two fourth officials. Having arrived in Tallinn last Thursday, Cordani took part in a high-intensity training session on Friday, supervised by a member of the UEFA Referees Committee, designed to assess compliance with the demanding standards of physical preparation required at international level. Had these standards not been met, she would not have been eligible for appointment to the matches concerned. This afternoon’s Sweden v France match will be refereed by Uruguayan official Anahì Fernàndez, assisted by her South American compatriot Daiana Fernàndez and by San Marino’s representative, Laura Cordani. Acting as fourth official – and one of the six referees appointed by UEFA for the final stages of the Women's U17 EURO – will be Italian referee Deborah Bianchi.
