Walking Football: activity kicks off on the Titan as well

With the first training sessions and tests held on 25 January, the Walking Football project run by the FSGC has officially kicked off. After an initial meeting at the Casa del Calcio last December, last week those taking part in the project moved to the Fonte dell'Ovo gym to familiarise themselves with this new activity. The project, organised by the Football Federation in collaboration with the Diabetology Centre of the State Hospital, is aimed at all over-50s with type 2 diabetes, who through this activity can keep fit while also having fun and socialising. "As a Federation we care deeply about this project," explains FSGC Football Social Responsibility Officer Andrea Zoppis, "and after a first phase launched in April 2022, we have now managed to start a three-month programme that we hope will attract even more participants in the future. Although different from the traditional game, walking football remains an excellent way of allowing older people to enjoy themselves while maintaining social interaction." There is also satisfaction from the Diabetology Centre, as Dr Letizia Ceccoli explains: "We are pleased to be part of this project promoted by the FSGC. Physical activity is just as important as medical treatment in combating a sedentary lifestyle among diabetic patients. We are curious to see what the short-term results will be, in the hope that the project can continue and thus lead to healthier and happier patients." We also remind anyone wishing to take part in the project, or simply seeking further information, that they can call the Football Federation (tel. 0549-990515) or send an email to [email protected].
