Walking Football, activities resume
To mark the International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on 30 September, UEFA has launched its new Walking Football campaign. This activity is constantly expanding across Europe, demonstrating how movement – linked to football – is fundamental for wellbeing and health.
The project has also been running in San Marino for a couple of years, initially aimed at patients with type 2 diabetes and later opened up to everyone – men and women – over 50.
A new season will kick off on 17 October, following last year’s schedule with a few additions: two weekly sessions with specialised, qualified coaches, held on Tuesdays at 11:00 outdoors on the Montecchio artificial pitch and on Thursdays at 19:00 indoors at the "Umberto Briganti" gym in Fonte dell'Ovo. Each training session will last one hour (with changing rooms provided by the Federation) and participants can choose to attend on one of the days or both. The programme is also completely free of charge.
Collaboration continues with the Diabetology Centre of the State Hospital of San Marino, which will follow diabetic patients by carrying out a number of tests before and after the programme to monitor the progress achieved through the activity.
During this new season, practical demonstrations – as happened at the most recent Fan Village last September – and friendly matches will also be organised, with the hope and aim of eventually creating a fully-fledged San Marino national Walking Football team.
Anyone wishing to take part in the Walking Football project or seeking further information can call the Football Federation (tel. 0549-990515) or send an email to [email protected].
