Championship: seventh round kicks off, Cosmos on top
After the exertions of the cup, it is already time to turn our attention back to the Campionato Sammarinese, with the seventh round getting underway tomorrow evening. The curtain-raiser is a high-profile one, featuring two grandees of our football: in Montecchio Tre Fiori and Tre Penne will go head-to-head (kick-off 21:15). Both sides are coming off wins in the Coppa Titano, but it is a different story in the league, where their “orchestras” are not playing in tune with the other leading sides. The Gialloblu and the Biancoazzurri are mid-table, the result of runs that are below their potential. While Tre Fiori have lost three of their last four, Tre Penne, for their part, have strung together only draws (four in a row). The league is certainly long, but neither team wants to lose ground. In terms of suspensions, Tre Fiori will have to do without goalkeeper Nardi, sent off at the end of the derby with Fiorentino.
The seventh round then offers three fixtures on Saturday 26th, all kicking off at 15:00. Having been knocked off top spot by Cosmos in the previous round, La Fiorita are looking to move back to the summit, at least temporarily (the Gialloverdi play on Sunday). Ceci’s side visit Fiorentino to face a Libertas side coming off cup elimination (the Gialloblu had a rest round). In the table La Fiorita sit second, just one point behind the aforementioned leaders Cosmos, but will still need to be wary of the Granata, unbeaten since the opening day. Ceci will be able to count in attack on Olcese, back from suspension and already on four league goals.
Also very intriguing is the clash between Virtus and Murata, kicking off at 15:00 in Domagnano. The mood music from the cup could not be more different: the Neroverdi are buzzing after progressing (and knocking out Cosmos), while the Bianconeri were held to 0-0 by Folgore, a result that meant elimination from the competition. Bizzotto’s side, however, will have to do without Benincasa, banned for one match by the sports judge. It is also a high-end duel between the two: Murata are third on 13 points, with Virtus just two points further back.
The qualification in midweek has undoubtedly given a big boost of confidence and optimism to Juvenes-Dogana, who are struggling to pick up points in the league. Fabbri’s team – still without a win – will try again on Saturday against a Domagnano side in difficulty (two defeats in a row) and also out of the cup. Among the absentees, Juvenes-Dogana defender Filippo Maza Rodriguez will miss out.
Sunday’s programme is equally packed, with two different kick-off times. Three matches get underway at 15:00, followed by a single fixture at 18:00. The latter will see leaders Cosmos face Faetano in Montecchio. On paper it all looks straightforward for the Serravalle side, who boast the best attack, the best defence and the league’s top scorer Badalassi. A different situation for Ricchiuti’s men, with four defeats in their last five league games, but they do have a Coppa Titano quarter-final place secured in midweek.
Oscar Lasagni’s Folgore are looking to keep climbing higher and higher (their coach is still suspended) as they visit Academy at Montecchio. After going through in the cup, the Falciano side are on a five-match unbeaten run (four wins and a draw) and want to make the most of a tricky period for Cecchetti’s Titani – who, however, had a rest round in the cup and therefore should be fresher.
Much harder to call is the match between Fiorentino and Pennarossa: both have been knocked out of the cup, while in the league their form has been very up and down, and they both come into this one off a win in the last round. The table favours Tarini’s Rossoblu (5th place on 11 points) over Dolci’s Biancorossi (13th with 4 points). Kick-off in Fiorentino is at 15:00.
Also in action in Domagnano are San Giovanni and Cailungo. Tognacci’s Rossoneri are in good shape (seven points from the last three) and want all three points to move into double figures (they are currently ninth on 8). It is a bleak spell for Cailungo, also eliminated from the cup and bottom of the table with just 1 point.
