BKN301 Championship: Cosmos rest, Tre Penne targeting top spot again
An ever more hard-fought and competitive championship is about to write a new page in its 2022-23 season story. With matchday 22 now behind us, a new round kicks off immediately tomorrow with the BKN301 Campionato Sammarinese midweek fixtures, to be played on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 March.
New league leaders Cosmos will sit this one out, so the chasing pack – Tre Penne above all – are eager to take advantage. The stand-out fixture is undoubtedly the clash between Stefano Ceci’s Biancazzurri and Luigi Bizzotto’s Virtus (scheduled for Wednesday at Montecchio, 21:15). Having surrendered top spot to Cosmos after drawing in the last round against La Fiorita, the City side will try to reclaim first place – now just a single point away – but they face a Virtus side unlikely to give an inch. The Neroverdi are currently fifth, seven points behind Cosmos, but a win would put them right back in the mix. Both sides have been consistently picking up points in recent weeks: Tre Penne are unbeaten in 2023, while Virtus have lost only once, to Pennarossa on 14 January. The match will also serve as a tasty curtain-raiser to the BKN301 Coppa Titano final, which will feature these very two teams.
Tre Fiori will also be pushing for the summit: a win for Andy Selva’s side, currently third, would see them draw level on points with Cosmos, although they will have their rest round coming up later. The Gialloblu face Murata tomorrow in Acquaviva (21:15), a side coming off a good win against Faetano. Angelini’s Bianconeri have moved away from bottom spot and the play-off zone is not too far out of reach. Amazingly without a win for four rounds, La Fiorita also want to close in on the top. The Montegiardino Gialloblu are currently fourth, four points adrift of leaders Cosmos. Manfredini’s side will take on Fiorentino and Malandri, whose campaign has been somewhat up and down (Wednesday in Fiorentino at 21:15). The Rossoblu have not won in two rounds and last weekend squandered a two-goal lead against Libertas – a match that ended in a draw – but they nonetheless remain in the play-off zone thanks to their ninth place in the table.
Speaking of the Granata, Sperindio’s team will face Cailungo (Wednesday in Domagnano at 21:15). Libertas are in a comfortable mid-table position (sixth with 30 points), while Protti’s Rossoblu slipped back down to bottom of the standings after last weekend. Wednesday will also see another Serravalle derby, this time between Folgore and Juvenes-Dogana (at Dogana, 21:15). Lepri’s Giallorossoneri saw their good run come to an end in the last round with defeat to Domagnano and are looking for more points to stay in safe territory and within reach of the post-season. Things are far less straightforward for Manuel Amati’s side who, after losing to Cosmos last weekend – a third straight defeat – have been dragged into the lower reaches of the table and now sit second from bottom. Domagnano, for their part, will not want to hit the brakes: the Giallorossi are flying after three wins on the bounce and on Wednesday (in Acquaviva at 21:15) they will meet a Pennarossa side that returned to winning ways last weekend with a 3-0 success over Cailungo, climbing up to tenth. Ranocchini’s team are currently eighth and will try to close the gap further on Folgore – currently just two points ahead. Also in search of precious points are San Giovanni and Faetano, who will lock horns tomorrow at Montecchio (21:15). Both coming off defeats, the Rossoneri are currently eleventh – the last spot that grants access to the end-of-season play-offs – while the Gialloblu are in free fall, without a win for almost three months (3-0 against Cailungo on 10 December 2022).
We also inform you that the Football Federation has announced the date for the rearranged match from matchday 21 between Cosmos and Libertas: the fixture – abandoned on 26 February due to an unplayable pitch – will be played on Tuesday 14 March at 21:15 in Montecchio and will resume from the start of the second half.
