BKN301 Championship, the chase is back on for La Fiorita

With the international break over, the BKN301 San Marino Championship returns to the field. Unlike the top European leagues, which are on hold to accommodate the World Cup in Qatar, football continues in San Marino and will do so for several more weeks. There are still four league rounds to be played before the end of 2022. It has been a gripping campaign so far, with La Fiorita currently leading the way. The Montegiardino side hold a two-point advantage over their closest pursuers but have yet to serve their rest day, which will come on matchday 15. On this tenth matchday, the team from Montegiardino take on Pennarossa on Saturday. Chiesanuova’s side, after a blistering start with three straight wins, have not tasted victory for over two months. Furthermore, following defeat to Faetano in the last round, the club decided to relieve head coach Andrea Farabegoli of his duties. The name of his successor – the club announced on social media – will be revealed in the coming hours. The weekend’s programme, however, kicks off with a very tasty appetizer. On Friday evening in Montecchio, one of the classics of Sammarinese football will take centre stage: the Libertas–Tre Penne derby. The Granata go into the clash with a new face on the bench: after the dismissal of Gabriele Cardini, the new head coach is Floriano Sperindio, who thus returns to a dugout in the San Marino league. The Borgo club are going through a difficult spell, having not won since 8 October (2-1 against Tre Fiori). The side from Città, on the other hand, are just three points off top spot and are the only unbeaten team in the league (five wins and three draws). Saturday also sees Cosmos in action, in their meeting with Fiorentino. The Gialloverdi currently sit second, level on points with Tre Fiori and, as mentioned, only two points behind La Fiorita. Nicola Berardi’s team are in excellent form, with three wins from their last four matches, and can also boast the league’s best attack (Prandelli and company have scored 17 goals). Fiorentino, by contrast, are bottom of the group, but have picked up four points from their last three games, including holding Tre Penne to a draw in the previous round. Tre Fiori, who face Domagnano on Saturday, will be keen to keep their own run going. Andy Selva’s side come into the match on the back of four consecutive victories, which have lifted them up to second place in the table. The Giallorossi Wolves, meanwhile, are coming off a defeat to Cosmos but, prior to that, had collected valuable points (five in three games). Rounding off Saturday’s card is the clash between Folgore and Cailungo, which will be played at 18:30 in Montecchio. Both sides are coming off defeats (three in a row in Folgore’s case) and are looking for points to climb the table, where they currently sit in the lower reaches. There will be just two games on Sunday. Virtus take on Murata, with Luigi Bizzotto’s team looking for more points to push into the upper positions of the standings. At the moment the Neroverdi are fifth, only four points off the summit, have lost just once in the league (2-1 to Tre Fiori on matchday two) and have won three of their last four. It is a different story for Murata, currently second from bottom in the group and on a run of four straight defeats. Also intriguing is the meeting between Faetano and Juvenes-Dogana. Girolomoni’s Gialloblu are one of the form sides, thanks to four consecutive wins that have propelled them up to sixth place. Amati’s team, on the other hand, have shown inconsistent form and are currently tenth with eight points to their name. San Giovanni sit this round out.
