League: La Fiorita find themselves top of the table in their Christmas stocking
Extraordinary show of strength from La Fiorita, who hit six goals in the first half in Acquaviva against hapless Domagnano. The Gasperoni–Ambrosini axis delivers the opener and the second between the 6th and 10th minutes, while from the spot Olcese signs off the Gialloblù’s third. The former Libertas striker gets on the scoresheet from open play shortly after the half-hour mark and precedes Fatica on the scoresheet: the centre-back provides the most classic of headed goals from an Amati corner – Amati having been presented with the BKN301 MVP award for December before kick-off. Before the interval Ambrosini completes his hat-trick, set up by Jacopo Semprini, while at the other end Domagnano win the penalty from which Gregori scores a consolation goal. The tempo drops in the second half, with Manfredini’s side concerned only with seeing out a victory already wrapped up in the first 45 minutes. The three points allow La Fiorita to leapfrog Virtus into first place, with Virtus called upon to respond tomorrow afternoon to reclaim top spot.
The encounter in Montecchio between Cailungo and Juvenes-Dogana was far more evenly balanced. This match was played under a thick blanket of fog, which made even substitutions difficult and led the referee team to introduce a coloured ball at the start of the second half after a goalless opening period. The stalemate lasts a further twelve minutes, just enough time for Benedetti to emerge from the curtain of fog with arms aloft. Iencinella had very few options available to tweak his side during the game, due to numerous departures and the Sammarinese transfer window not opening until tomorrow for confirming new arrivals.
Meanwhile 2024 begins in outstanding fashion for Tre Fiori, who manage to beat and overtake in the table reigning champions Tre Penne. De Falco’s men take the lead on 13 minutes through Fedeli, perfectly placed in the centre of the box to finish off a fine move by Katriel Islamaj. The same playmaker from Pisa then scores the second, latching onto a through ball from Varrella to beat Migani from the heart of the penalty area. After the break the script appears unchanged, with the Gialloblù adding a third on the counter-attack: Bernardi is unstoppable, making the most of a back line that is inevitably stretched as it pushes to get back into the game. As the minutes pass, visibility on the pitch worsens due to the fog, out of which Tre Penne emerge in fourth place. And next week, to close out the first half of the season, they face Virtus: the Biancazzurri’s bogey team have won the last two head‑to‑head meetings, which account for two‑thirds of the Acquaviva club’s trophy haul. Should Bizzotto’s side defeat San Giovanni tomorrow and then confirm themselves against Tre Penne, Ceci’s team would reach the halfway mark 12 points off the summit.
On the fourth and final pitch involved in the Saturday advance fixtures of Matchday 14, it is Gega’s cross‑shot that makes the difference between Murata and San Marino Academy. The flash of quality from the Albanian full-back, played in by Vasconcellos, arrives in the 10th minute of the first half with a cross‑shot, and it is the final touch from Zavoli that wrong-foots Cervellini. The committed performance from the Under‑22 side coached by Matteo Cecchetti yields neither goals nor points, despite chances and promising situations not being in short supply. Angelini’s Murata thus claim their tenth win of the season, climbing back up – for the moment – to fifth place, pending tomorrow’s Libertas–Cosmos clash, and doubling their lead on 75 minutes through the ever‑reliable Raul Ura.
A precious victory, in the final match scheduled at 18:15 at the Acquaviva Stadium, for Fiorentino. It is a fairly balanced game and short on excitement, at least in the first half when Faetano are more convincing but no more clinical than their opponents. Things seem set to change after the restart, when efforts from Stefanelli and Brisigotti test both goalkeepers. What turns things on their head in a match apparently destined for a goalless draw is Gimenez’s header in the 86th minute. Coming off the bench, the defender guides captain Molinari’s corner into the back of the net, allowing Fiorentino to jump up to tenth place in the table – currently good enough to qualify for the post-season. Faetano are forced to lay down their arms and even risk conceding a second in the sixth and final minute of added time, when Manzaroli also pushes up into the opposition area. On the ensuing counter with the goal unguarded, Palumbo denies Niang – changing the shape, but not the substance of a poor Saturday for the Gialloblù.
