League: back on the pitch tomorrow for the title showdown between La Fiorita and Virtus
Barely time to digest the outcomes of Matchday 21 of the Campionato Sammarinese BKN301 and the midweek round is already upon us. And the fixtures are anything but insignificant. Standing out above all is the title showdown between La Fiorita and Virtus. While it would be premature to call it a definitive turning point – with Manfredini’s and Bizzotto’s sides separated by just a single point – it is equally true that both have shown they have few real rivals in the rest of the pack. A win for either side would significantly strengthen their claim to the title over their direct opponent. The match will be played tomorrow at 21:15 in Acquaviva and will be broadcast live via streaming on TITANI.TV – as with all games in the competition. A draw, however, could open the door again for Tre Penne and Cosmos.
At the same time, the Gialloverdi will be on the pitch against Tre Fiori, away in Montecchio. After losing to La Fiorita, Cosmos slipped to fourth place, overtaken by Tre Penne. Getting back to winning ways is the only route for Di Maio and his team-mates if they are to keep alive hopes of a sensational comeback. Even more complicated is the task facing Tre Fiori, who with a victory would leapfrog their upcoming opponents in the table. Less complex, but no less demanding, is the climb that Libertas will attempt, as the Granata are just one point behind Faetano in twelfth place. It should be said, though, that the Borgo Maggiore club have not won since 13 January, when they faced Pennarossa. Tomorrow in Fiorentino they will come up against a Folgore side who have suffered three straight defeats since their stunning victory over then-leaders La Fiorita – a result that had seemed capable of turning their season around. Today, Oscar Lasagni’s team lie three points off seventh place, currently shared by Juvenes-Dogana and Fiorentino – who met yesterday, cancelling each other out.
Domagnano-Pennarossa rounds off the list of early fixtures. The Wolves have put together three consecutive wins, pulling themselves clear of the scrap for twelfth place. Extending that winning run against a Pennarossa side still searching for their first victory could prove decisive in that respect. As it stands, three teams are battling for the final berth that grants access to the Preliminary Round of the play-offs. Alongside Libertas, Faetano and San Marino Academy will be in action on Wednesday. They will not yet be facing each other: Girolomoni’s side will take on a Cailungo team, in Domagnano, who are on a negative run – albeit having shown signs of a reaction against Murata. Cecchetti’s young Biancazzurri will instead have to deal with an in-form Juvenes-Dogana.
Just like Fiorentino, with whom they share the same points tally in the standings. The Rossoblù face the test of San Giovanni, who, after their comeback win over Folgore, have joined the group of four teams still in the hunt for a place in the post-season while avoiding the two fixtures scheduled in the Preliminary Round. To do so, they must finish in the top seven. Finally, the derby of the Castello di Città between Murata and Tre Penne will take place in Acquaviva. Angelini’s Bianconeri got back to winning ways yesterday against Cailungo, in a match that underlined the quality at the disposal of the former Santarcangelo coach. Tre Penne, who have recently reclaimed third place on the grid, can do nothing but aim to win all nine of their remaining matches in an effort to defend – right up to the final day – the title they secured last season on the final matchday. And right at the end of the campaign, Ceci’s men will have to meet both La Fiorita and Virtus.
