League, fog the master of the late kick-offs: two draws and one postponement

Fog was the absolute main player on Matchday 16 of the 2025-26 Campionato Sammarinese. After heavily affecting the Saturday fixtures, it also made its presence felt in Sunday’s programme. The match in Fiorentino, between Tre Fiori and Cosmos, lasted less than 400 seconds: Avoni suspended play after 6’20” with the score at 0-0 and – having waited the standard 45 minutes for a further inspection – confirmed the postponement of the game following a pitch inspection together with captains Prandelli and Mularoni. The big match between La Fiorita and Virtus, which did not get underway until 15:55, looked destined for the same fate. This time, however, the wait did not lead to a postponement. On the contrary, the game started at a very high tempo: Affonso broke the deadlock on 8 minutes from an assist by his compatriot Cicarelli, while at the other end the reigning champions drew level through the Lombardi-Buonocunto combination just before the quarter-hour mark. Scappini and Olcese were unable to make their chances count, while Passaniti was outstanding in denying Vitaioli a second goal – and then again in turning away an angled effort by Affonso. Visibility was perfect after the restart and already on 52 minutes Virtus had the chance to turn the match around: Montanari shot from the heart of the penalty area, beating Zavoli but not Dormi, who was perfectly placed on the goal line. The Gialloblù playmaker also stood out in attack, forcing Passaniti into a spectacular save midway through the half. A few minutes later, the Virtus goalkeeper also had to intervene on a right-footed effort by Vitaioli. In the closing stages Bizzotto’s side increased the pressure, but the scoreline stayed the same: the Neroverdi move level at the top with Tre Fiori, who will however have to replay the afternoon’s postponed match against Cosmos.

The only match that went ahead as originally scheduled was Juvenes Dogana-San Giovanni, played in Domagnano. Before kick-off, Juvenes Dogana celebrated captain Merli’s 150th appearance, an all-time record for the Biancorossazzurri since the merger between Juvenes and Dogana (2000). Visibility was acceptable in this case, but in terms of on-field action there was little to see. The first half slipped by without goals or major thrills. After the break it was San Giovanni who pierced both the fog and the defence: the first goal of the season for Tiraferri, from a clever pass by Palumbo, gave them the lead on 69 minutes. Juvenes Dogana poured forward and restored parity on 81 minutes through a precise finish from Aprea, who moved on to six league goals this season, helped by a touch from Casadei. There were no further twists at the end: Boldrini’s men draw level with Fiorentino in seventh place, while San Giovanni – with their third draw in a row – once again miss out on victory, which has now eluded them for eight rounds.
