League: top-of-the-table clash between Folgore and Virtus
Matchday eight of the Campionato Sammarinese will be played over two days, Saturday and Sunday, with all fixtures kicking off at 15:00. It gets underway tomorrow afternoon with a showdown that will decide sole leadership of the standings: in Montecchio, Folgore and Virtus face each other level on points, both on 19, with the Giallorossoneri ahead on goal difference. On one side the best attack in the league, with 18 goals scored; on the other, the meanest defence, with just 2 goals conceded. Michael Ricci’s side come into the game after drawing with Tre Penne, a result which ended their run of straight wins, while Virtus arrive buoyed by victory over Domagnano, their sixth league success in a row. It is a contest that promises entertainment and could reshape the balance at the top. Also on Saturday, but in Fiorentino, it’s La Fiorita v Cosmos. The Gialloblù, sixth on 13 points, are still unbeaten in the league and want to build on their recent positive results: a win would in fact allow Andy Selva’s men to draw level with Cosmos in the table. Paolo Rossi’s team, for their part, come into the match on the back of five consecutive victories and can rely on a particularly prolific strike partnership in Roberto Guidotti and Leon Cremonini, both on six goals and leading scorers in the competition. Rounding off Saturday’s programme are two more fixtures. In Acquaviva, Juvenes-Dogana take on Pennarossa aiming to rediscover a win that has eluded them for several matchdays. The Biancorossi, however, will have to cope with some key absences: coach Costantini will be without suspended trio Abouzziane, Giuliano Guida and Marco Evaristi. Juvenes-Dogana, stuck on four points, come into this one after a 1-1 draw with Cailungo and are looking for a positive result to move away from the lower reaches of the table. In Domagnano, meanwhile, Faetano face the Lupi di Domagnano, a fixture already seen twice in the cup. The Gialloblù are still searching for their first win of the season, while the Lupi are coming off defeat to Virtus, their third in the last four, with just one point collected in the same period. For both sides, it is a major opportunity to relaunch their campaign and gain ground on their direct rivals.
On Sunday, at the Acquaviva Stadium, the spotlight turns to Fiorentino v Libertas. The two teams are level on eight points and a win would allow one of them to close the gap on the top-six pack. Both are looking to bounce back from goalless defeats suffered in the last round. It is a match that could prove a key turning point for the ambitions of both the Granata and the Rossoblù. Also on Sunday, Cailungo will face Tre Fiori. The Gialloblù, fifth on 16 points and coming off three consecutive clean sheets in the league, will look to build on their victory over Murata. However, they will be without their coach, Danilo Girolomoni, who is serving a three-match ban. Cailungo, for their part, are chasing points to pull away from the bottom positions, but come into the game in a fairly good run of form. In Fiorentino, San Marino Academy, still without a league win, take on San Giovanni. Three massive points are at stake for both teams, who could make significant leaps up the table depending also on the other results of the day; this match will also be broadcast live on FIFA+ and DAZN. Finally, in Montecchio, Tre Penne face Murata. The Biancoazzurri, third on 17 points, are looking to stay in touch with the top two after drawing their head-to-head with Folgore. There is a key absentee for the side from Città, who will be without Simone Loiodice, suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards. Murata, meanwhile, need a reaction after their defeat to Tre Fiori and to get their tally moving again, as they currently sit on four points.
