League: straight back on the pitch in the first weekend of 2024
On the first weekend of 2024 the Campionato Sammarinese BKN301 gets straight back underway with matchday fourteen. With leaders Virtus playing on Sunday, on Saturday afternoon La Fiorita will be looking to move top at the expense of the Neroverdi themselves. The Gialloblu from Montegiardino – currently second, two points behind the Acquaviva side – take on Domagnano. The Giallorossi are currently mid-table and are coming off a good comeback win over San Marino Academy in the last round. Manfredini’s team, however, are in excellent form, with six wins on the spin. Kick-off in Acquaviva is at 15:00.
Another match to keep an eye on – also at 15:00 but at the “Crescentini” in Fiorentino – is Tre Penne v Tre Fiori. Both are in the upper reaches of the table and will want to stay on the heels of Virtus and La Fiorita. The reigning champions are currently third, a point ahead of the Gialloblu, but are coming off their first and only defeat of the league campaign, suffered against La Fiorita. It is a good spell for Tre Fiori, with three wins in their last five, although the Fiorentino club will have to do without their top scorer Cecconi (11 goals for the forward), who is suspended.
Also kicking off at 15:00 are Murata and San Marino Academy: on the Domagnano artificial pitch the Bianconeri are looking to return to winning ways after three rounds without a victory (their last on 25 November against Juvenes-Dogana), despite a league position that still sees them in the upper reaches. Matteo Cecchetti’s Titani are also chasing precious points, above all to close back in on the play-off places – currently five points away. Cailungo and Juvenes-Dogana will also do battle on Saturday: it is a flat spell for the Rossoverdi, currently outside the play-offs; things are going better for the Serravalle club, who in the last round ended a long winless run, reigniting their post-season ambitions. The match is scheduled for 15:00 on the Montecchio artificial.
There is just one evening fixture on Epiphany: at 18:15 Faetano and Fiorentino will take to the pitch in Acquaviva. The Gialloblu’s bench features a notable change: Pellegrino out, Danilo Girolomoni in, the latter having already coached Faetano in previous seasons, and now tasked with keeping his side in the play-off spots. Slightly further back but still firmly in the hunt are Fiorentino, just two points behind the Gialloblu.
League leaders Virtus will be looking to defend their throne when they take to the field on Sunday afternoon against San Giovanni. It promises to be an intriguing contest between two in-form teams: the Neroverdi are putting together an almost perfect league campaign – “stained” only by defeat to Cosmos – but Tognacci’s Rossoneri are also making plenty of noise. San Giovanni come into this one on the back of three straight wins, a run that has lifted them up to seventh place.
Cosmos will not want to slow down either, as on Sunday at 15:00 on the Domagnano artificial pitch they face Libertas. Nicola Berardi’s Gialloverdi are unbeaten in six (with five consecutive victories), but against the Granata they will have to do without the suspended Mirko Palazzi and Matteo Prandelli (the league’s top scorer with 14 goals). Just one win in the last five for Floriano Sperindio’s Libertas, but they remain only a point off the play-off places.
Also in action on Sunday are Folgore and Pennarossa (Fiorentino, 15:00). The Falciano club are in relatively calm waters – eighth place in the group – thanks to two wins in their last three outings; the “sea” is far rougher for Nobile’s Biancorossi, still bottom of the standings and searching for their first league joy of the season.
