League: Rampant Tre Fiori, Fiorentino snatch a draw against La Fiorita at the death
Tre Fiori show no signs of weakness. After two resounding wins over Pennarossa and Faetano, another one arrives against Domagnano, who also came into this top-of-the-table clash on the back of two wins from two – just like their opponents on the night. And in fact, the Wolves certainly didn’t roll over. But the final verdict still reads 3-0 Tre Fiori, increasingly a goal machine with 12 scored in the first 270 minutes of the league season. In effect, the contest in Dogana is decided inside the opening 35 minutes, a spell in which come Benedettini’s angled drive, another finish from the heart of the box again by Benedettini (set up by D’Addario) and finally Rea’s right-footed strike from Sami’s corner. In between, Domagnano were willing and enterprising, but in reality Nardi was seriously tested only by Michelucci’s powerful drive, superbly turned away by the Gialloblù keeper. For his part, Maggioli also has plenty to do to avoid an even heavier scoreline, in particular on Mengucci’s header in the 38th minute. After the break D’Addario picks out Prandelli, who one-on-one with Maggioli wastes a huge chance. Around the hour mark Benedettini breaks down the flank and with the outside of his boot goes very close to a hat-trick. Bernardi also has a massive opportunity to make it 4-0, copying his team-mate with a burst down the wing (the right, this time) but hesitating at the moment of the decisive finish. Another chance falls to the former Domagnano man Mengucci, who shoots wide, while at the other end Nardi has to warm his gloves again on Ferraro’s long-range right-footer. Domagnano mostly pin their hopes on the electrifying Santi: on 73 minutes he lays on a golden chance for Ambrosini, who fails to hit the target. Ben Kacem scares Maggioli with a thunderous left-footed effort, while Toccaceli catches Nardi slightly unprepared, the keeper spilling the ball before being bailed out by his team-mates. Maggioli is monumental instead on Ben Kacem when he is sent clean through, and then on Sami, who had pounced on the second ball and tried to lob the Giallorossi goalkeeper. The scene is almost identically repeated in the 89th minute: once again Maggioli shuts the door on Ben Kacem. Domagnano have a couple of late flashes: first Fusco forces a save from distance from Nardi and then Rigoni goes close to the base of the post with a headed effort on the run, while his team-mates appeal for a penalty for handball in the box. No spot-kick and no consolation goal for Amati’s side, who slip to their first defeat of the season. Tre Fiori, by contrast, continue to sail with the wind in their sails.
The same cannot be said for La Fiorita, who see two of the three points slip away in the 3rd minute of stoppage time, having been on course for victory against a Fiorentino side that get back to taking points after the league defeat to Virtus and the cup loss to Tre Fiori. The game runs on an even keel throughout the first half. Bonetti has the chance to break it late on, when Nappello sends him through on Benedettini but the former Domagnano man misjudges his chip. The goal that breaks the deadlock arrives in the 65th minute, when Serges picks up a ball on the edge of the area and unleashes it first time towards goal, bending Benedettini’s hands. Fiorentino’s response comes from Vicente, who lets fly from long range, forcing Vivan into a superb save. At the other end Benedettini also flies to keep out Guidi’s driven left-footer. The same Guidi then puts it on a plate for Nigretti for the easiest of tap-ins, but number 28 is astonishingly a no-show. La Fiorita fail to close it out and so Fiorentino charge forward head down in search of the equaliser. Vivan deals with Mariano’s dangerous effort, but in the 93rd minute he is beaten by Pesciarelli’s header from a corner. A bitter ending for the Gialloblù, who continue to collect only draws (three out of three). Fiorentino, on the other hand, can smile as they avoid being overtaken and temporarily draw level with Libertas and Virtus.
