Campionato: Virtus v Cosmos is the standout fixture of the day

For Matchday 5 of the Campionato Sammarinese we return to the two Friday night curtain-raisers. Pennarossa v La Fiorita and San Giovanni v Juvenes-Dogana will be the starters for a round in which the clash between Virtus and Cosmos stands out for prestige. Pennarossa and Juvenes-Dogana are both still chasing their first league win – and in Pennarossa’s case, their first victory of the entire season, given that unlike the red-and-blue-and-white side, they also lost the first leg of the cup round of 16. The tests are tough ones, especially for Pennarossa, who head to Acquaviva to take on one of the leaders, La Fiorita, riding the wave of three straight wins. Nor will San Giovanni be easy prey for Juvenes-Dogana, who after last weekend’s late heartache will be looking in Dogana for an immediate reaction against a side not too far above them in the table (4 points to 2), but boosted by Sunday’s win over Faetano – the first league success of the season for the red-and-blacks. Turning to Saturday, here comes the main course: the meeting between Virtus and Cosmos, which promises to be entertaining. The Neroverdi lead the Single Group standings alongside La Fiorita and Murata, but are only one point ahead of their visitors, who arrive on the back of a mini-run of two consecutive victories. The game will be played in Fiorentino, while the Stadio di Montecchio will host the clash between Cailungo and Tre Penne, with the former still stuck on zero points and the latter determined to step up the tempo after back‑to‑back goalless draws in the last two rounds. Folgore, on the other hand, do not appear to be suffering from any such block, having won their last three league outings and aiming, again on Saturday in Acquaviva, to strike up a fourth symphony at the expense of Fiorentino, who recently saw their positive streak (two straight wins) ended rather decisively by Virtus. The third league leader, Murata, will take centre stage in Sunday’s programme. Having returned to winning ways after the spectacular 3-3 draw with Domagnano, the Bianconeri will look to confirm their form against a Libertas side sitting just three points off the top and undoubtedly buoyed by three positive results in a row – two of them wins – with which they come into this fixture in Domagnano. After winning their opening match, Faetano have slipped into a spiral of three consecutive defeats. Their hunt for redemption will take the Gialloblù through a meeting with the San Marino Academy Under-22s, who in turn are eager to shake off a negative run (in their case four losses from four, just like Cailungo) and to kick-start a new phase of their season. The Stadio di Montecchio will provide the stage. At the “Crescentini” in Fiorentino, meanwhile, Tre Fiori and Domagnano will face off, with the Wolves chasing a victory that has eluded them since Matchday 1 (followed by one defeat and two draws) and the Gialloblù needing to reverse the trend after back-to-back defeats in their last two league outings. A reminder that all matches will be broadcast live and free to stream on the Titani.TV platform. Here is the Matchday 5 schedule:
