League: Zonzini restores Tre Penne’s solitary lead at the top

A draw was taking shape – and in any case, it would have been enough for Tre Penne to catch La Fiorita, who had a bye this weekend. Instead, in the closing stages of a thrilling, goal-filled clash with Domagnano, Stefano Ceci found the winning card on his bench: on came Kevin Zonzini and, four minutes into stoppage time, it was the no. 6 himself who delivered the blow that returned Tre Penne to winning ways and restored their solitary lead at the top of the Single Group. It was a bitter pill for Domagnano, who had gone in front through Angelini – a second goal in as many games for the Giallorossi captain after his strike against Cailungo – and who then managed to pull level again at the start of the second half, after Tre Penne had turned things around late in the first period with goals from Chiurato and Righini. Bara’s goal looked like it might be enough to give the Wolves a third positive result in a row; but no, because at the death a very fresh player, only on the pitch for a few minutes, produced the decisive flash that tipped the balance once more, this time for good. There was late heartbreak in Cailungo’s Sunday as well. The Rossoverdi were chasing a result that would allow them to gain further ground on Murata; instead, Santucci dragged wide, three minutes from time, the penalty that would have enabled Cailungo to level against Virtus, who had led since the 12th minute thanks to Focaccia’s goal. In the few remaining moments before the final whistle, Bizzotto’s men even found time to double their lead through Joel Apezteguia, who wrapped up a third straight win for the Neroverdi – ideal for consolidating third place at the expense of Tre Fiori, now three points back. It finishes goalless between Folgore and San Giovanni: a result that mainly benefits the Rossoneri’s position in the table, as they move a point further away from the sides chasing a place in the Preliminary Round: Cailungo (-5) and Juvenes-Dogana (-6). In other words, the “hot potato” now sits mainly in Murata’s hands. This is the complete picture from Matchday 28 of the league:
