BKN301 Coppa Titano: Tre Fiori and Tre Penne chasing remarkable comebacks

It will take something special from Tre Fiori and Tre Penne to dislodge Virtus and La Fiorita from their favourable positions going into the second legs of the BKN301 Coppa Titano semi-finals. In the first legs, Bizzotto’s and Manfredini’s sides recorded significant victories which mean they can not only afford to settle for a draw in tomorrow’s matches, but could even withstand a narrow defeat. That is at least the case for Virtus, who beat Tre Fiori 3-1 on 6 March. That game was decided late on. Until the penalty converted by Vallocchia in the 85th minute, the contest was perfectly balanced at 1-1. From there to the final whistle, the Neroverdi also found the strike for 3-1 through Lombardi. Fiorentino’s Gialloblù will need to win by two clear goals to take the tie into extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shoot-out. Only once this season have Virtus lost by such a margin or greater (0-3 against Cosmos on 9 December), and Bizzotto’s men have no intention of letting a second consecutive Coppa Titano final slip away by having an off night. The same goes for La Fiorita, who like Virtus are competing on two fronts. And, curiously, they will face Tre Penne twice in just a few days as they look to stay in the hunt in both the league and the cup. While it is still too early to talk about their league meeting in terms of the title race, the eve of the Coppa Titano return leg has already arrived. Stefano Ceci’s Biancazzurri are up against it after their 4-1 defeat in the first leg. For the club from Città it is a mountain to climb, and success inevitably requires a flawless performance against the best defence in San Marino. To beat the Montegiardino side by three clear goals, they will need an effective defensive phase and an extremely productive night in front of goal. To understand the difficulty of the task, it is enough to note that La Fiorita have conceded two goals in the same match on just one occasion this season, when they lost 2-1 to Virtus in the league more than five months ago.
