Titano Cup: the chase for La Fiorita begins tomorrow
With the third matchday of the Campionato Sammarinese wrapped up yesterday, it is already the eve of the opening round of the Titano Cup. Tomorrow and Wednesday evening, in fact, the first legs of the Round of 16 are scheduled. The competition will not feature the San Marino Academy Under 22, while La Fiorita will enjoy a bye as holders of the trophy (La Fiorita will face the winners of Juvenes-Dogana vs Fiorentino in the quarter-finals).
Fourteen teams will therefore line up at the start: three matches are on the schedule for tomorrow, and four more on Wednesday – all kicking off at 20:45. At the "Federico Crescentini" in Fiorentino, Domagnano and San Giovanni will meet, arriving at the fixture in very different moods given their contrasting starts to the league campaign. At the same time in Dogana there will be a fresh clash between Tre Fiori and Libertas, who faced each other as recently as last Friday. On that occasion the Granata deservedly came out on top, even if the winner arrived deep into stoppage time thanks to a wonderful free kick from Diego Moretti. Rounding off Tuesday’s programme is the tie between Folgore and Murata. The Bianconeri came close to disaster in the league, throwing away a two-goal lead and even risking defeat against Domagnano. In contrast, the Falciano club are looking increasingly convincing, coming into this one on the back of two straight wins. On paper, Montecchio should host a match of high technical quality and strong individual talents.
The same can be said of Cosmos and Virtus, paired together at this early stage of the draw. On Wednesday they will meet again in Dogana, where two years ago – and against the same opposition – the Neroverdi began their charge that ultimately saw them lift the trophy under the Montecchio sky. In Domagnano it will be Faetano and Pennarossa taking centre stage, both looking to change course after a slow start to the season with few positives. Similarly, Cailungo are called upon to scale the Tre Penne mountain – one of the favourites to go all the way. Juvenes-Dogana and Fiorentino do not set out with such stated ambitions, yet both have already shown they can hold their own even against the deepest and most talented squads, nurturing the dream of playing the role of outsider. The first of the two legs is scheduled on the artificial pitch in Fiorentino, again with kick-off at 20:45.
All matches of the 2024-25 Titano Cup will be broadcast live in full via streaming with Italian commentary on TITANI.TV (website and app).
