Two honours for the FSGC at the prestigious Città di Piancastagnaio event
On Saturday 11 June the “La Castagna” Città di Piancastagnaio Award took place. Now in its second edition, the award brought to the Tuscan town a number of prominent figures from the worlds of sport, culture and literature, including some well-known football personalities such as LND President Giancarlo Abete and former player Giovanni Galli.
Also present at the event was the Federazione Sammarinese Giuoco Calcio, which received two important honours: a plaque was presented to President Marco Tura “for the promotion of San Marino football, first as an international referee and then as president of the federation”, while another distinction was awarded to the Football Federation “for its valuable contribution to promoting peace through sport”, as stated on the respective plaques. As President Tura was unable to attend, the awards were accepted on his behalf by Andrea Nardoni, FSGC Administrative Coordinator.
Solidarity is a theme to which the Football Federation has always been particularly attentive, as shown by recent initiatives such as the dispatch of food and medicines to the Ukrainian population and last week’s Training Camp organised by the FSGC to enable Ukraine’s women’s futsal national team to best prepare for their upcoming European commitment.

As mentioned, President Marco Tura was unable to attend the event; nonetheless, he wished to express his deep gratitude for the honours received: “I would like to thank Rossano Dolfi and the municipal administration of Piancastagnaio for these awards. It is always a pleasure when our initiatives are recognised. We are a small federation, but we know how to make our presence felt in every field. We want to promote football, while maintaining constant focus on the fight against all forms of violence.”
President Tura also reflected on hosting the Ukrainian futsal players: “It was an honour for us. I express all my closeness to them, with the hope that they will be able to return to living in peace as soon as possible. I would like to thank” – the President concluded – “all the people and organisations that made this gathering possible.”
