FSGC: Walking Football activities kick off for patients with type 2 diabetes
To mark World Health Day, the San Marino Football Federation – together with the Functional Endocrine-Metabolic Diseases Unit of the State Hospital (MFMEME-UOC Internal Medicine) – is promoting walking football for all men and women over 50 living with type 2 diabetes. The programme includes one or two one-hour training sessions per week over a period of three months, at facilities used by the FSGC, which will provide participants with the necessary equipment. Participants will be monitored through a full medical check-up before and after the three‑month activity phase. Around ten days ago, San Marino Legends and ASCO35 enthusiastically took part in the first Walking Football exhibition match: "As FSGC we are very pleased to have organised this exhibition," said the head of the Social Responsibility Projects Office, Andrea Zoppis. "We hope it can provide the right push and ensure good visibility for the Walking Football activities we have launched in collaboration with the San Marino Diabetes Centre. This is intended as an opportunity for men and women over 50 with type 2 diabetes to play a safe sport, with very low risk of injury, as well as to have fun, socialise and exercise. We hope all this can encourage everyone to try this discipline and, above all, help improve the health of the people it currently targets. I would like to conclude by thanking San Marino Legends and ASCO 35 for taking part in the exhibition match – I am convinced that they too had more fun than they expected".
