FSGC: Bonifazi in Geneva for training and update of match managers

©FSGC | Valeria Grosso and Elya Bonifazi Two days of training and updating for all the Match Managers of the national associations affiliated to UEFA. The "2022-24 Cycle Kick-off Workshop", aimed at organising the matches involving all the national teams of the Old Continent in the UEFA Nations League, European Qualifiers and international friendlies, was held in Geneva last Wednesday and Thursday. Also present were UEFA’s Football Operations Specialists, effectively Nyon’s top experts in competition organisation. Together with them and the Match Managers – representing the FSGC was Elya Bonifazi – were also the Venue Operations and Broadcast Managers appointed by UEFA for each national team’s home fixtures. For San Marino, in 2022, Valeria Grosso will again be in place. Individual and group sessions, working groups and simulations of unforeseen events, as well as the analysis of case studies and a strong focus on issues such as motivational communication, shared operational priorities and maintaining effective concentration under stress, were all on the agenda. In particular, there were also separate meetings by UEFA Nations League groups, together with UEFA’s FOS, to address potential critical issues that may arise in the upcoming June, September and October fixtures. There was a detailed analysis of the latest regulatory updates, including in terms of the Return To Play Protocol, along with the implementation of VAR in the Nations League. In the group with Bonifazi and Grosso were Henny Smorenburg (FOS), Priscilla Salazar Janssen (FOS, at UEFA since 1996) and Mario Gauci (Malta, Assistant Match Manager).
