Futsal, league: Ruthless Fiorentino. Matchday 29 kicks off tomorrow
It is a ruthless Fiorentino that sweeps aside Folgore with a resounding 7-0 win in the big showdown that closes Matchday 28 of the Campionato Sammarinese di futsal. Before the blockbuster clash at the Multieventi, Michelotti’s side were top of the table with a five-point lead over their rivals. Now the gap stretches to eight points and with two rounds remaining, the Rossoblu are certain to finish the regular season in first place and can best prepare for the title play-offs.
The big match at the Multieventi opens immediately with a lightning goal from the ever-reliable Danilo Busignani, then Andrea Ercolani (twice) and Matteo Moretti find the net to close the first half at 4-0. After the break the script does not change, Fiorentino keep their foot firmly on the pedal and score twice more through Busignani (a hat-trick for him, taking his tally to 59 league goals) and Andrea Gasperoni. Max Spada’s Folgore thus suffer their second league defeat of the season but still retain second place (Tre Fiori are third, five points behind). The defending champions from Falciano will have to regroup with a view to the play-offs and also the Titano Futsal Cup final (scheduled for Tuesday 2 May at the Multieventi, again against Fiorentino).
With Matchday 28 now in the books, the league resumes immediately tomorrow with Matchday 29, the penultimate round. The hunt is on for crucial points especially at the bottom, where there is still a real scrap for a place that secures post-season action. One of the decisive clashes is undoubtedly Murata-Cailungo, to be played in Fiorentino at 20:15. The Bianconeri currently sit in eleventh place with a two-point cushion over Tre Penne and San Giovanni. A win would virtually seal their play-off spot, but this is last chance saloon for Cailungo, who must target all three points if they are to keep believing. Bollini’s Rossoverdi are in fact second from bottom, four points adrift of the crucial eleventh place held by Tre Penne and San Giovanni. Galli’s side, who beat Pennarossa in midweek, will face Juvenes-Dogana (Acquaviva, 20:15), already sure of a post-season berth and firmly established in seventh place. A similar scenario applies to Gualtieri’s Rossoneri, who take on Libertas (at Dogana, 20:15), safely into the play-offs thanks to their tenth place. Below Cailungo sit Faetano, bottom of the table but still with a glimmer of hope. Corbelli’s team must win to keep their hopes alive and will be counting on their rivals – especially Tre Penne and San Giovanni, five points ahead – to slip up this round. But it will be no easy task for Faetano, away to Tre Fiori in Fiorentino (21:45). Alex Bugli’s side are in outstanding form with nine consecutive victories and will attempt – difficult as it may be – to catch second-placed Folgore, currently five points clear. The Giallorossoneri, after yesterday evening’s rout against Fiorentino, will look to bounce back immediately tomorrow against Domagnano (Acquaviva, 21:45). Mussoni’s Giallorossi have been inconsistent (just one win in the last five) but remain solid in sixth place, three points ahead of Virtus, who have a bye this round.
The league leaders Fiorentino are also in action against Cosmos (Dogana, 21:45): the Rossoblu, assured of top spot, will want to further enhance their incredible numbers and perhaps try to complete the regular season unbeaten; Federico Muccioli’s Gialloverdi, steady in ninth place, return to the court after their rest round and will attempt to put pressure on eighth-placed Pennarossa. Mattia Casadei’s Biancorossi will feature in the late game on Friday evening at the Multieventi against La Fiorita. Chiesanuova’s side have not won in four rounds, while the Montegiardino outfit coached by Davide Ghiotti are in very good form, thanks to four wins in their last five, and a victory would seal fourth place.
