Futsal, league: Folgore face Domagnano, Fiorentino look to pull away
The San Marino Futsal Championship still has no clear frontrunner as it returns tomorrow for matchday 14. In the previous round the big clash between the joint leaders – Folgore and Fiorentino – finished level, so nothing changed at the top: both sides remain unbeaten and hold a healthy cushion over the chasing pack. There could be a few banana skins for Max Spada’s team, who take on Domagnano on Monday evening at 21:45: Mussoni’s yellow-and-red Wolves are in good form, with back-to-back wins and a four-game unbeaten run. The Falciano side, though, can rely on their usual monstre attack, which has already produced 87 goals. On paper the task looks more straightforward for Matteo Michelotti’s Fiorentino, who face Cosmos tomorrow at 20:15. The Serravalle team are currently 12th – the last position that gives access to the end-of-season play-offs – but come into the game on the back of two defeats and with just eight points collected so far.
Behind the leaders in third place are Tre Fiori, who will take to the court on Tuesday in the late fixture against Faetano: Alex Bugli’s yellow-and-blues are in good shape, with four wins from their last five outings (their only slip-up coming against Folgore), while the opposite applies to Corbelli’s side, who have celebrated just once in their last five matches and currently sit 11th.
Another match well worth following is the one between La Fiorita and Pennarossa, two of the form teams in the league: both boast an excellent run of three consecutive victories. Davide Ghiotti’s yellow-and-blues are sixth and want more points to climb the table (Virtus, currently one point ahead, have a bye this round), while the Chiesanuova outfit coached by Casadei are solid in eighth place on 19 points. In the upper reaches of the table we also find Juvenes-Dogana, who tomorrow take on Tre Penne: Zonzini’s side are seventh with 22 points and, despite an up-and-down spell, returned to winning ways last time out. Things are not going so well for the Città team, who have lost three on the bounce and are stuck in mid-table on 12 points.
The remaining fixtures on matchday 14 feature sides chasing precious points and their first wins of the year to kick-start their campaigns. That is the case for San Giovanni and Libertas, who meet tomorrow at 20:15: Penserini’s maroon side are currently 10th – therefore in the play-off zone – with just one win in their last five; the same applies to Gualtieri’s red-and-blacks, although they sit 13th and are, for now, outside the post-season. Also scheduled for tomorrow at 21:45 is the clash between the bottom two: Murata and Cailungo, 14th and 15th respectively, both seeking a morale-boosting win in what has so far been a difficult season for each of them.
