Futsal: late heartbreak for Domagnano as Fiorentino regain top spot thanks to Casadei
A spectacular encounter rounded off the third-from-last matchday of the regular season in the 2023-24 Campionato Sammarinese di futsal. Fiorentino return alone at the top, snatching a win right at the death after being pushed all the way by Domagnano, who produced a superb second half. Even without the suspended Busignani, the Rossoblù dominated the opening period: the first chance fell to Cevoli, who exchanged passes with Maiani and tested the excellent reflexes of Muraccini – decisive with his foot. A little later he could do nothing, however, about Zafferani’s clinical finish, teed up by Maiani’s cut-back. Domagnano responded with an initiative from Faetanini, whose ball across the face of goal found no team-mate at the far post. Fiorentino went close to doubling their lead through Cevoli and Bacciocchi, before Muraccini denied both Zafferani and Maiani. The defending champions did in fact find their second on 28', courtesy of an individual piece of brilliance from Alan Bacciocchi: intercepting a pass from Capone into the heart of the area, he set off on a coast-to-coast run, finishing it with a thunderous strike that gave Muraccini no chance. Within a matter of seconds Domagnano went from bad to worse, as another opposition transition led to a scramble near the edge of the box where Santarini got into a tangle and Cevoli pounced. At the interval, Fiorentino led 3-0.
After the break, though, it was a completely different story, despite Fiorentino threatening through Bacciocchi after just twenty seconds. On 35' Lorenzo Bollini combined down the line with Capone and beat Protti at his near post – the goalkeeper will feel he could have done better. A deflection off Zafferani, nine minutes later, sparked a series of challenges that broke kindly for Filippo Dolcini – who made it 2-3. Now Domagnano really believed, going close to a remarkable equaliser through a solo run by Faetanini – thwarted by a stunning flying save from Protti. The leveller arrived shortly afterwards, when Davide Dolcini took advantage of a misunderstanding between Ceccoli and Zafferani, nipping in ahead of the latter and rolling the ball into an empty net, with Protti having moved wide to offer a passing option in Fiorentino’s build-up. Unbridled joy for Domagnano, who, five minutes from time, could almost taste the feat of stopping the reigning champions. For Gasperoni’s men, however, the sting was in the tail: Ceccoli drove at a set defence, winning his duel with Manuel Bollini and allowing Casadei to collect and beat Muraccini in the final minute of normal time. In the additional minute played in stoppage time, Domagnano threw on the flying goalkeeper – protesting a missed penalty in a collision between Faetanini and Zafferani just seconds before the final whistle from Daniele D’Adamo.
