Futsal: Fiorentino secure second place, Domagnano into the play-offs
Domagnano return to winning ways, while San Giovanni slip up. The combination of these two results gives the Giallorossi mathematical certainty of taking part in the championship play-offs. And they will certainly do so as the third-placed side, given that Fiorentino, thanks to their emphatic win over Cailungo, have preserved their 12-point cushion over the Wolves and, with only nine points left on offer for the latter, can from now on focus solely on chasing down leaders Folgore, who were idle yesterday and now sit three points clear of the reigning champions. There was no contest in the meeting between Michelotti’s side and bottom club Cailungo: despite being short on numbers, the Rossoblù hit double figures. The standout performer is Samuel Toccaceli, who scores four of his team’s ten goals. Joining him on the scoresheet are three team-mates who share not only the same first name but also the achievement of finishing the evening with a brace: Andrea Gasperoni, Andrea Ceccoli and Andrea Contato. Domagnano, coming off a defeat and a draw, meanwhile see off Libertas 3-0. Here too there are two Andreas on the scoresheet: Franciosi opens the scoring from the penalty spot and Zanotti completes it late in the second half. In between comes the second goal from Manuel Bollini. The play-off race is officially over for San Giovanni, who unwillingly round off a bad night for the Borgo Maggiore clubs: Juvenes-Dogana run out 7-0 winners over the Rossoneri, ending a league winless streak that stretched back to 14 March. The 7-0 is opened by Mularoni’s unfortunate own goal, followed before the break by strikes from Jacopo Giardi and Federico Costantini. After the restart the gap widens further thanks to Giardi’s brace and goals from Lorenzo Bacciocchi, Andrea Santi Ugolini and Ugo Federico Bagnasco.
In Group B Tre Fiori beat Cosmos 3-0 and take another major step towards sealing top spot: Bugli’s Gialloblù now need just a single point to extinguish any remaining hope for La Fiorita, who are five points off the leaders and behind on head-to-head record. Last night further widened the gap between the top and bottom halves of the table: all three "podium" sides won, starting with the leaders, who made it four victories on the spin thanks to a Paolo Verri double and a goal from Luca Zafferani. For Cosmos, second from bottom and six points adrift of third-placed Pennarossa, the task becomes extremely difficult but not yet impossible, as one of their two remaining fixtures is a direct clash with the Biancorossi from Chiesanuova. The latter quickly put the defeat to La Fiorita behind them by overcoming Faetano with relative ease. The group’s bottom side, missing among others Massimo Moroni and Omar El Attar, concede the first goal of the evening inside two minutes. Tiziano Selva then repeats the trick on 12 minutes, underlining a dominance which, at that stage of the match, had the "Penna" 4-0 up, also thanks to goals from Alessandro Podeschi and Gianpaolo Brighi. Faetano react before the interval through Nicola Raschi’s strike, only for Pennarossa to restore their four-goal cushion via Federico Rinaldi. The player of Argentine origin scores again midway through the second half after Cosmos’ attempted comeback sparked by Giacomo Bacciocchi and Diego Savoretti. In the closing stages, Matteo Giovanardi’s goal puts the seal on a win that boosts Pennarossa’s credentials in the three-way battle for the last spot granting access to the post season. Virtus are also trying to stay in the mix, but they have now gone three games without a win and last night were beaten 7-2 by La Fiorita. The Neroverdi’s goals from Filippo Tamagnini and Matteo Morganti are not enough to stem a Gialloblù wave that starts to swell as early as the 5th minute with Mattia Gualandi’s opener and grows into the final "magnificent seven" thanks to the inspired form of Giacomo Bernardi, who hits a hat-trick, and further goals from Alex Mattioli, Thomas Pellegrini and Francesco Stolfi. Palermino’s side claim a victory that keeps alive their belief in finishing top, even if, as mentioned above, Tre Fiori now have the line almost in sight.
