Futsal: National Team and Laurentiu Ilie in Croatia for Futsal Week

Now a regular winter appointment in San Marino’s futsal calendar, the San Marino national futsal team will set off this evening for Croatia to take part in Futsal Week. The February Cup will not, however, be played in Poreč – as has recently always been the case – but instead in Labin. There will be five national teams involved: besides the Titans, Denmark, Malta, Switzerland and Greenland. Getting the tournament under way this afternoon will be Switzerland and Malta – who, incidentally, share the same qualifying group for the 2026 UEFA Futsal EURO and could have been San Marino’s opponents before the draw on 25 January, which produced very different surprises for the Titans. As for Osimani’s men, their debut will also be against Malta: their opening fixture is scheduled for tomorrow at 18:15. After that, they will play one match per day for the next three days: Switzerland (2 February, 18:15), Denmark (3 February, 16:00) and Greenland (4 February, 16:00). All matches of the Futsal Week – February Cup will be streamed live and free of charge on the tournament’s official Facebook page (click here). The squad will return to the Republic immediately after their final fixture. In light of this international tournament, Matchday 17 of the Campionato Sammarinese di futsal has been entirely moved to Thursday 8 February 2024. It is not only the National Team that will be involved in the Futsal Week – February Cup; a San Marino match official will also take part. This is Laurentiu Ilie, who was recently appointed as an international futsal referee. For the 1988-born official, his absolute debut is scheduled for tomorrow at 18:15, when he will take the role of second referee in Greenland-Switzerland. As first referee, he will then take charge of Malta-Denmark the following day (16:00). Below is Roberto Osimani’s squad list for the trip to Croatia:
