Futsal, Super Cup goes to Fiorentino

Once again it is Fiorentino and Folgore facing off for the first trophy of the year, although Galli and Zonzini’s squads have been completely overhauled compared to the ones that finished last season. The game is played at a high tempo from the outset, even if the chances to score can be counted on the fingers of one hand in the opening quarter of an hour. In fact, the first real chance already delivers the opening goal. Credit to Rossini, who high up the court robs Ercolani of the ball and then beats Zanotti one-on-one to break the deadlock in favour of Fiorentino. Earlier, the Folgore goalkeeper had done well to deal with Morri’s diagonal effort. The match thus heads onto terrain more suited to the Rossoblù, who threaten again through a speculative right-foot strike by Paoloni – comfortably watched over by Zanotti. On the Folgore side, two initiatives from captain Pelliccioni come to nothing. Towards the end of the half Fiorentino make life difficult for themselves when managing a ball that Beccari recovers, but he cannot turn it into a telling assist thanks to Paoloni’s decisive intervention. The last two flashes are from the Rossoblù, dangerous from dead balls with Felici and Baizan, but Zanotti copes well on both occasions. At the start of the second half Fiorentino are again the more threatening, with Rossini once more effective in pressing Ercolani. Righi then wastes the ensuing right-foot shot. Shortly afterwards another great opportunity for the Rossoblù arrives as they are awarded an indirect free kick from the penalty spot after Bacciocchi’s back-pass is picked up by Zanotti. Paoloni’s effort crashes into the wall lined up on the goal line, while Rossini – on the rebound – is no more fortunate. The best chance, however, falls to Folgore, with Ercolani sent clear in front of Geri by Bortolotto. The goalkeeper proves decisive, preserving the lead. As the minutes pass, the club from Falciano throws bodies forward and the match becomes even more entertaining. All the more so for Fiorentino, who double their advantage on 41 minutes: excellent movement by Casadei with his marker on his back and two attempts to beat Zanotti, decisive at the first but powerless on the tap-in. Beccari tries to jolt Folgore into life with a late run into the box that almost catches out Geri – who had previously moved out to unleash a right-foot shot from distance. The national team goalkeeper is pivotal again on 49 minutes in a one-on-one with Muccioli, who is denied the goal that could have made it 2-1. In the final ten minutes Zonzini’s men throw everything forward but cannot find a way through – despite a promising solo run by Bacciocchi, halted by Geri and Paoloni. Time is on Fiorentino’s side, and they repeatedly call their goalkeeper over the halfway line to manage possession with a numerical advantage. Above all, though, Geri is outstanding in his own area, also denying Casali from close range on 57 minutes. Folgore have to wait until the second and final minute of added time to finally beat the Fiorentino goalkeeper through Pelliccioni – quickest to pounce on Geri’s save. It is a bittersweet moment for Zonzini’s side who, with 20 seconds left to rescue the game, pour forward and are punished on the counter by a pass slid through for Casadei. The pivot is decisive once more and fires in with his right foot for Zanotti’s third and final concession, sealing the 2024 San Marino Futsal Super Cup for Fiorentino.
