Futsal: Virtus defeat La Fiorita and move up to fifth place

The third consecutive win carries huge significance for Virtus. Pollini’s side not only close the gap on their opponents on the night, but also respond in kind to Domagnano’s victory and draw level with Murata in fifth place. La Fiorita confirm they are not going through the best spell of their season. The Montegiardino outfit have now gone three rounds without a win (four, counting their bye week), during which time they have picked up just one draw and suffered two defeats. Last night, in the late fixture played at the Multieventi, Virtus struck at the end of both halves. The opener, from Zamboni, arrived on 29 minutes; the second, scored by Sensoli, came in the 59th minute. La Fiorita had two 10-metre free-kicks, the first in first-half stoppage time and the second midway through the restart. However, both Franciosi and Mariotti missed the target. And so Gianni Galli’s team are forced to surrender third place to Tre Fiori and now feel the growing threat just behind them from the duo of Virtus and Murata, who are only three points adrift.
