Futsal: Libertas out of the play-offs and La Fiorita through, Cosmos-Virtus ends all square

Folgore decide to go overboard for the second match running. Two are the consequences: they move to within touching distance of the goals and goal-difference record set in the 2018-19 season (Fiorentino, 126 goals scored, 26 conceded, +100 goal difference) and condemn Libertas to an early elimination from the play-off race. Clearly Max Spada’s side have a certain taste for hitting double figures against teams from the Castello di Borgo Maggiore: after the 15-0 against Cailungo comes a 13-1 against the garnets, stunned early by Yuri Rossi and then forced to pick the ball out of the net another four times before the break. Between Felici’s brace and the goals by Bernardi and Pelliccioni came Covi’s effort, scant consolation for Penserini’s team on a night that, after the restart, would bring hat-tricks for Chezzi and Busignani, another goal from Bernardi and James’ own goal. San Giovanni take full advantage to leapfrog their neighbours into fourth place and put themselves forward as the only side capable of causing even the slightest worry for Domagnano, who approach the last four hurdles of the post season with a reassuring nine-point cushion over the bottom half of the table. It was a derby for the Rossoneri against Cailungo. The verdict from Gualtieri’s men is emphatic, as they see off their cousins 4-0, opening after 3 minutes with a Capicchioni penalty and then running away with it in the second half thanks to Casali’s brace – on his return from injury – and Volpinari’s goal. Staying with Group A, Fiorentino come from behind to win, the only side still able – at least mathematically – to threaten Folgore’s lead. In fact, the reigning champions take the initial lead in the clash with Juvenes-Dogana. But after Pasqualini’s opener they are pegged back almost immediately by Borasco and then even fall behind late in the half through an unfortunate deflection by Ceccoli. The second half is therefore entrusted to the comeback. And Michelotti’s men complete the mission in full, first getting back on level terms through Righi and then pulling away with Pasqualini’s second of the night before Gasperoni applies the final seal. While Fiorentino extend their positive run, Pennarossa are unable to build on their victory over Virtus. The Biancorossi fall to La Fiorita, who can officially celebrate early qualification for the play-offs. Here too the result is turned around from behind. It is in fact "Penna" who break the deadlock through Rinaldi; Mattioli restores parity for Montegiardino on the stroke of half-time, and it is again Palermino’s number 99 who turns the game on its head, before Poggiali’s own goal definitively seals the Gialloblù success, bringing to an end a brief negative run of two consecutive defeats. In any case, Pennarossa’s bad news for the evening stops there. Chiesanuova’s side will have been very pleased with the outcome of the head-to-head between Virtus and Cosmos, the two teams threatening their third place. Mattia Casadei and his players feared either being overtaken again by the Acquaviva side or a very dangerous closing of the gap by Serravalle. Nothing of the sort: the 2-2 draw, sealed in added time, effectively robs both Cosmos and Virtus of two points and allows the Biancorossi to look with optimism towards the last three fixtures of the season, on paper more straightforward than those awaiting their two current pursuers, even if the lead over them is far from unassailable. The direct clash in Acquaviva sparks into life around the quarter-hour mark: within the space of a minute Selva puts Virtus ahead and Bologna, from the spot, brings Cosmos back on level terms. Then comes a long stalemate until the closing stages. Here Cervellini completes the turnaround that could have given Cosmos’ campaign real impetus. But Pascucci, in the first minute of stoppage time, produces the decisive touch that earns a draw certainly more welcome to Virtus, given the table situation and the way it came about, even if in truth the outcome has the feel of a missed opportunity for both. Meanwhile Tre Fiori continue their march at the top, racking up a third straight win and protecting their five-point advantage over La Fiorita. The top-versus-bottom meeting with Faetano is one-way traffic: Tre Fiori go in at half-time five goals to the good, thanks to strikes from Morini, Daniel Casadei, Sabatino, Rossini and Morini again. In the second half Cappelli’s brace and Gasperoni’s goal serve only for the record, while Faetano, increasingly adrift at the foot of the group, further blot their copybook with a straight red card for Massimo Moroni.
