Futsal, the league kicks off: La Fiorita and Tre Fiori meet again at the Acquaviva Sports Hall
It is not the absolute debut of the futsal season, but it will still be the first day back at school for twelve of the fifteen teams on the Titan. The league starts tomorrow, bringing with it plenty of changes “inherited” from the summer. The first is undoubtedly the possibility of registering a foreign player in the squad. Then there is the new look of the benches after the merry‑go‑round of recent months. In addition, it is worth noting the inclusion in the calendar of the Acquaviva Sports Hall, a regular home for San Marino Academy matches but a brand‑new venue for the fifteen San Marino clubs. Among the confirmations are last season’s format (a single round-robin group followed by a Preliminary Round and play-offs), the – albeit not systematic – use of the Multieventi Sport Domus, and the need to schedule one postponed fixture on each matchday, with only occasional exceptions.
As mentioned, twelve teams will experience their seasonal ‘first day’ between tomorrow and Tuesday. Not included in this group are Fiorentino and Folgore, who have already faced each other in the Super Coppa Sammarinese final, and Juvenes-Dogana, who will immediately serve their rest round. Defending champions Fiorentino will begin their title defence against Tre Penne, immediately looking for redemption after the recent disappointment of failing to secure what would have been their third consecutive trophy. The side coached once again by Michelotti will face a team that, by contrast, has changed at the helm: from Gianni Galli to Davide Elia Ghiotti. The match will be played in Fiorentino and will be the first of the two evening fixtures.
The second will see Virtus – still under Luca Pollini – take on a completely revamped Murata side led by Gabriele Cellarosi. It will be a contest full of former players, above all brothers Angelo and Paolo Casadei, who have returned to Murata after a season – overall positive both individually and collectively – spent precisely with the black‑and‑green club. Roberto Penserini’s Libertas will open the programme at the Dogana venue against Folgore, fresh from their Supercup triumph and more determined than ever to challenge Fiorentino’s dominance in the two competitions that whet the appetite of San Marino clubs the most, both of which turned red and blue last year at the expense of the Falciano outfit. The latter have passed into the hands of Claudio Zonzini, who enjoyed a dream debut by keeping Folgore’s name on the Super Cup roll of honour. After the Granata and the Giallorossoneri, the stage in Dogana will pass to Cosmos and Cailungo. The former have retained head coach Federico Muccioli but changed several pieces in the squad, clearly aiming for an upgrade on last season’s campaign. The latter have said goodbye – at least in his role as coach – to Michele Bollini to welcome back Matteo Venerucci, and the goal can only be to secure a post‑season berth that slipped away in 2022‑23.
Faetano and San Giovanni have recently swapped head coaches. Faetano is now under the guidance of Davide Gualtieri, who will begin his new adventure by facing Pennarossa, coached by Mattia Casadei, in Domagnano, as he prepares to start his fifth season in charge of the Biancorossi from Chiesanuova. On the same pitch, in the second game of the evening, it will be San Giovanni’s turn to make their bow against Domagnano. The Rossoneri, now coached by Elmiro Corbelli, will try to spoil the ‘debut’ of another newcomer on the bench, Fabio Gasperoni, who has taken over the Wolves after the long tenure of Manuel Mussoni. The last match on the schedule will be played on Tuesday. Tre Fiori and La Fiorita will inaugurate the Acquaviva Sports Hall as a new venue for Campionato Sammarinese fixtures. The two sides ended their 2022‑23 campaigns by facing each other in the third‑place play‑off. La Fiorita came out on top and this year restart under Gianni Galli. On the opposite bench, Alex Bugli has been confirmed.
