Futsal: Pennarossa hit four as Virtus floored after the break
An unmistakable statement of intent from Pennarossa, who in the top-of-the-table clash with Virtus (second against third in the standings) produced an emphatic four-goal haul in the second half. It would almost be more accurate to call it two pairs, given that Maiani and Gasperoni both got on the scoresheet – each bagging a brace. After a goalless first half, Pennarossa’s perfect storm broke right at the start of the second period, when Novembrini’s men knocked on the neroverdi door three times in as many minutes. Late on came the goal that sealed the 4-0 scoreline and also marked a return to a clean sheet.
A cold shower for Virtus, who are now level on 48 points with La Fiorita, although the latter have already served their rest round. Pennarossa are seven points clear of both, but the Gialloblù could potentially close the gap when it is Chiesanuova’s turn for the enforced break. In the meantime, the Montegiardino side claimed their sixteenth win in twenty matches – despite trailing 2-1 at half-time against Tre Fiori. Pollini’s team overturned Matteo Chezzi’s opener thanks to Casadei and a Gualandi own goal. It looked like it could finally be the right night for the Fiorentino side, who on 38 minutes even stretched their lead to 3-1 through Tamagnini. What made the difference, however, was La Fiorita’s grandstand finish. After pulling one back on 40 minutes through Pellegrini, Traviglia’s men struck a further three times in the last ten minutes, taking the same pivot to a hat-trick and Giuccioli onto the scoresheet in a 5-3 victory.
It is Fiorentino who are smiling, having wON as expected against Libertas. The win was never in doubt for the Rossoblù, who went in at the break 5-0 up thanks to strikes from Gasperoni, Felici, Morri and a brace from Giacomo Bernardi. Their dominance was confirmed after the restart, when a consolation goal from Jacopo Bernardi made it a temporary 7-1. Galli’s side pushed on to reach eleven goals in total, shared between four scorers: Gasperoni and Felici (both with braces), Morri (hat-trick) and Giacomo Bernardi (four goals of his own).
A big win also for Tre Penne, who put seven past Cailungo. It is a purple patch for the club from Città, now nine games unbeaten (eight wins and a draw). The Biancazzurri had effectively wrapped things up by half-time, with Beinat, Sabatino, Ercolani, Rossi and Rossini signing off a 5-0 lead. In the second half, Sabatino got on the scoresheet again, along with Gamba – deep into stoppage time. The only sour note for Penserini’s men was the dismissal of Beinat for a second yellow card (both bookings shown in the 60th minute) with the score at 6-0.
The only draw of the evening completed the picture of Friday’s fixtures: Cosmos vs San Giovanni ended 2-2. It was a missed chance for the Gialloverdi to record a fourth straight win, while Volpinari and team-mates managed to halt a damaging losing run. Lorenzo Bacciocchi struck inside the opening three minutes to give Cosmos the lead, and they were able to repeat the dose and double their advantage in the very first moments of the second half. San Giovanni, however, deserve credit for staying in the game and reopening it on 41 minutes through Severi. Before the final whistle, Franchino’s men saw their efforts rewarded: Volpinari found the net for the second time to seal the draw.
Tonight and tomorrow the two remaining fixtures are scheduled. Folgore vs Faetano may well be a last call for the Gialloblù, whose eight-point deficit to twelfth place already looks hard to make up. Folgore, on the other hand, will be determined not to lose ground on Fiorentino, aiming to finish their regular season in the top half of the table. At the summit sit Murata who, with a three-point lead and a game in hand over Pennarossa, will tomorrow face Domagnano at the Multieventi. Gasperoni’s men are out to improve their position and, between now and the end, catch Tre Penne. It is a duel that benefits both sides, as the places just above them are no longer so far away.
