Futsal Week: Poland rampant in June Cup opener
A very tough debut for San Marino’s futsal National Team at the June Cup in Poreč. Poland immediately took control of proceedings, breaking the deadlock on 4’ with a powerful strike from Sendlewski, picked out by a long, incisive pass from deep by Leszczak and quick to fire in with his right. Three minutes later came the second, again from Sendlewski, this time with a slice of luck as a double deflection allowed him to make it two and complete his brace with a simple finish from close range. The 3-0 was scored by Zastawnik, who volleyed past Cecchetti after a delightful dinked pass from Kriecel straight from a kick-in. It was not the best moment for the Titans, who also paid the price in terms of concentration. An “illegal” back-pass to the goalkeeper gave away a free kick on the edge of the area, which Poland took with great composure and clarity of thought: the ball was shifted to Surmiak who, unchallenged, had no trouble turning it into the net.
San Marino tried to knock on Warszawski’s door with a move from a kick-in: Moretti managed to free up a diagonal right-footed effort which, after a double deflection (the first off Cecchini), crashed against the far post with the goalkeeper beaten. But Poland quickly got back to their game plan. The irrepressible Sendlewski completed his personal hat-trick with a precise first-time finish from a corner. The sides went into the break at 5-0, a scoreline that could have been even heavier had efforts from Zastawnik and Surmiak not come back off the woodwork, the latter thanks to a crucial reflex save from Elia Cecchetti. There was another effort against the post at the start of the second half, with Ceccoli throwing himself on the goal line to divert Mroweic’s seemingly certain strike. However, a mistake in the circulation of the ball while using the flying goalkeeper offered Zastawnik the chance to widen the gap and take his personal tally to two. At this point head coach Osimani changed in goal, handing a first appearance on the pitch – albeit not in an official match – to Lorenzo Bizzocchi; in the previous minutes the same had happened for Alan Bacciocchi and Filippo Burioni. In the meantime Poland again hit the woodwork – with Bizzocchi decisive on this occasion – before further inflating the scoreline with a toe-poke finish from Skiepko (after a great combination with Zastawnik), a thunderbolt under the crossbar from Sendlewski (who rounded off his day with four goals) and another toe-poke, this time from Leszczak. The National Team will be back in action this afternoon at 16:00 against Sweden.
