Dr Grana and Dr Ferri at the FIFA Medical Conference in Boston

Dr Simone Grana and Dr Annamaria Ferri are taking part, representing the San Marino Football Federation, in the FIFA Medical Conference being held in Boston, which is currently under way. The work, which began yesterday, aims to harmonise – and ultimately improve – football-related sports medicine through the sharing of experiences, knowledge and good practice by professionals from the world of football. Yesterday’s sessions addressed topics such as player care before and during tournaments, including the choice of criteria by which such tournaments should be planned in line with medical considerations. The programme then moved on to brain health, before concluding the day with a series of closing reflections. This morning, that is to say today, the fil rouge was women’s football, with its specific medical features. The afternoon is instead devoted to cooperation and to the aspirations that football confederations must pursue in order to advance global sports medicine. Finally, the last module focuses on medical decision-making regarding so-called return-to-play, namely the resumption of activity by a female or male player following injury or illness.
