NAT San Marino-Vojvodina is a final, Bizzotto: “Having to win is a psychological advantage”
NAT San Marino-Vojvodina, scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at the Hajdina Stadium (15:00), is in effect a play-off for qualification to the Final Tournament of the 2026-27 UEFA Regions’ Cup. One of the amateur representative teams of San Marino or Serbia will confirm themselves among the best eight in Europe and will have another chance to win the trophy – which last year ended up in the cabinet of Spain’s Aragon, triumphant on Sammarinese soil where the last six matches of the previous edition were played.
The tournament’s best attacks and best defences go head-to-head: nine goals scored and none conceded by Vojvodina; five scored and one conceded (from the spot) by NAT San Marino – whose statistics are heavily affected by the 97 minutes spent a man down in the opener, where the Biancazzurri nevertheless showed a clear tactical and technical edge. In short, tomorrow’s clash was always expected to be – and will be in practice – the decisive encounter. Vojvodina can afford to settle for a draw, while the Titans have no alternative but victory. A situation that might seem disadvantageous for NAT San Marino, yet it is interpreted in a completely different way by Luigi Bizzotto: “Psychologically it is actually an advantage to be in a position where we don’t have to think about managing a draw. As I reminded the boys, we have nothing to lose and everyone is eager to achieve an important, fantastic result that would make a dream come true. We are firmly determined to play – in inverted commas – the game of our lives, taking on Vojvodina openly and without any kind of fear. There is nothing for us to manage, we just have to focus entirely on chasing victory; I am convinced that we will give a very good account of ourselves.”
Looking to read the cards for tomorrow’s duel, the Head Coach has clear ideas – also based on video analysis of Vojvodina’s two previous matches: “They can rely on a front line of good quality; after all, they have won their two group games 5-0 and 4-0 and are in excellent scoring form. Even in these recent outings, they confirmed the impression we had last year in San Marino, namely that we will be facing a physically imposing and athletically well-prepared side. All of this underpins some interesting individuals who express their qualities fully. Vojvodina are certainly a solid, organised and physical team – on the other hand this could prove a limitation in terms of the speed and acceleration of their central defenders, who so far have not been tested much.” In essence, two teams with similar potential will face each other. But what will be the decisive factor in a match that promises to be so finely balanced? Defensive solidity or attacking firepower? According to Luigi Bizzotto, “as in all finals – and this can be considered one – small details and individual episodes will make the difference between joy and disappointment. I think that for us it will be especially important to give continuity to our defensive work, because we know that with an effective performance in ball recovery and closing down we can fully support our offensive potential – which is far from negligible.”
NAT San Marino-Vojvodina will be played tomorrow at the Hajdina Stadion in Ptuj – in Slovenia – kicking off at 15:00. There will be no live broadcast of the match or of the tournament as a whole from the local organisers. UEFA.com will provide live text commentary of the match (click here). Marko Serdar is definitely out, following a direct red card in the previous game between Ptuj and Vojvodina in the 88th minute, when the Serbs had already wrapped up a 4-0 win. There was no reprieve for Imre Badalassi either; the UEFA Disciplinary Committee handed down a two-match suspension (one of which he already served last Sunday).
