Nations League: San Marino in D1 with Liechtenstein and either Gibraltar or Lithuania

The fourth edition of the UEFA Nations League is taking shape, and for the third time San Marino’s National Team will feature in a three-team group within League D. Whereas in the previous two editions this outcome was dictated purely by chance, on this occasion it was a planned scenario. In fact, only six teams were placed in League D, due to Russia’s continuing exclusion from UEFA competitions. The Titani, second from bottom in the competition’s European ranking, were drawn with Liechtenstein and one of Gibraltar or Lithuania. The March play-off will determine who completes Group D1, with the losing side in that tie being seeded in the group. Should Lithuania prevail, San Marino would face an identical draw to the second edition of the Nations League, in which they collected two draws from four matches. ©FSGC | Zafferani, Tura and Bronzetti at the 48th Ordinary UEFA Congress (Paris, 2024) The fixture list, which will run exclusively from September to November, will be released this evening by UEFA. Attending the ceremony, held in Paris, were the federation’s top officials: President Marco Tura, General Secretary Luigi Zafferani and Treasurer Filippo Bronzetti. They were joined by the new Head Coach of the San Marino National Team, Roberto Cevoli, and the Head of Communications Luca Pelliccioni. The event, as usual organised with the utmost precision by UEFA, took place at the Maison de la Mutualité in the French capital. In the same conference complex, the 48th Ordinary UEFA Congress was held in the morning. Numerous topics were discussed and debated in the assembly, which, among other things, led to the approval of the proposed amendments to the UEFA Statutes. The Congress also approved UEFA’s financial statements, both actual and forecast, and ratified three new members of the Executive Committee – representatives of the ECA and the European Leagues. The work of the UEFA Congress was then adjourned to the next edition, scheduled to take place in Belgrade on 3 April 2025.
