Women’s National Team: summer doesn’t halt the work. Domenichetti: “Incredible response from the group”
The day of the official announcement – last 13 April – coincided with that of the very first training session. Since then, the Women’s Senior National Team has scheduled a series of regular get-togethers. Head coach Domenichetti had several aims: to get to know the many players at her disposal better, to work on some on‑field principles, to help the group gel, and to keep fitness levels as high as possible. While it is no surprise that the various training cycles covered the spring months and June, it was less conventional to schedule a series of sessions in July as well. The latest of these took place last Tuesday. Now, for a while, the group will mainly be working with their clubs before regrouping under the head coach’s guidance to prepare for the upcoming official fixtures on the calendar.
“The idea of organising these July camps stems from the desire to support the players as much as possible on their journey, bearing in mind that we are only at the beginning of this project,” explains Giulia Domenichetti. “Between April and June we had provided guidelines and fitness work for them to do on their own, but then we felt it was appropriate to give our players the chance to keep training together even in a period that is usually ‘quiet’. The intention was to provide them with a tool that would further stimulate their training activity. And we were pleased to see that their response was extremely positive, both in terms of attendance and enthusiasm. All of this represents an incredible asset as we look ahead to the commitments that await us.”
