San Marino Special Cup returns at the weekend, reaching double figures this year

The number 10 is the leitmotif of the 2026 edition of the San Marino Special Cup. Firstly because this now traditional competition reaches double figures this year in terms of editions held. And secondly because ten will also be the teams taking part. Matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday: the first day will be devoted to a round-robin group, used to draw up a provisional table which will then determine the pairings for the finals on Sunday. What’s more, this year the Special Cup once again has an international flavour: among the participating teams there will also be Special Olympics Monaco – representing the Principality – and the clash between the sides of the two Small States, San Marino and Monte Carlo, will take place on Saturday at exactly midday, with two very special guests to take the ceremonial kick-off: the Captains Regent. Sharing the Montecchio artificial pitch – the tournament’s sole venue – will be Albano Primavera, Associazione Fuorigioco ODV, ASD Calcio Veneto, Insuperabili, Sportinsieme Castellarano, ASD Sport “in” Veneto, Samba Rimini and Parma Special – in addition to the already mentioned teams from San Marino and Monaco.

If the San Marino Special Cup can now be regarded as a tradition, so too can the tournament’s presentation press conference, once again hosted at the Casa del Calcio in Montecchio. On the panel were the Presidents of the two Federations whose perfect synergy makes the organisation (and indeed the success) of the tournament possible: Marco Tura for the FSGC and Filiberto Felici for the Federazione Sammarinese Sport Speciali. Felici himself underlined how, over time, the San Marino Special Cup has become an unmissable fixture for the teams that regularly take part – to the point that, in some cases, their request to participate arrives even before the official invitation email is sent out by the FSSS. He was also keen to thank the San Marino Football Federation for its concrete support, which goes beyond providing the venue and playing equipment to include the coordination of resources for organisational purposes. Marco Tura congratulated his fellow president on the efforts made by the Federazione Sammarinese Sport Speciali – including through the work of Bruno Muccioli, who was present at the press conference – not only in relation to the Special Cup (whose longevity he applauded as clear proof of the quality of the work done), but also in all the other projects involving San Marino’s special athletes, enabling them to showcase their talents in a context of healthy competition and, above all, in full adherence to the highest sporting values.

Matches will be five-a-side. Saturday’s schedule will kick off at 9:00 in the morning, with a lunch break from 12:30 to 14:30. The afternoon fixtures will then run until 18:00. The tournament will resume on Sunday morning at 9:00 and will conclude at 12:30. As President Felici reiterated, the backdrop of the crowd also makes a real difference: therefore, everyone is warmly invited to fill the stands at Montecchio (with completely free admission) to cheer on and support all the players taking part in the 10th San Marino Special Cup.
