Champions League night in Israel for Stefano Podeschi
New international appointment for Stefano Podeschi, who yesterday evening served as Referee Observer for the UEFA Champions League clash between Maccabi Haifa and Sheriff. The match, the second-leg fixture of the second qualifying round of Europe’s premier club competition, was played at the Sammy Ofer Stadium in Haifa (Israel) and ended with a 4-1 victory for the home side. It was a game full of twists and turns: after Sheriff, the side from Moldova, had taken the lead, Maccabi came back to overturn the scoreline, moving in front and taking the tie into extra time. In the additional period, helped also by the double sending-off for Sheriff, the hosts struck twice more, securing two crucial goals that sent them through to the next round. The match was officiated by Polish referee Damian Sylwestrzak, assisted by linesmen Bartosz Heinig and Adam Karasewicz (fourth official Pawel Malec).
