The Special Cup returns to Montecchio
After two editions were postponed due to difficulties linked to the pandemic, the San Marino Special Cup is returning to Montecchio – organised in partnership by the Football Federation, the Federazione Sammarinese Sport Speciali and Special Olympics San Marino. This year’s five-a-side football competition, featuring teams made up entirely of Special Olympics athletes, will once again bring a vibrant burst of energy and enjoyment to the Fonte dell'Ovo Federal Centre. The event confirms its tradition as a major attraction across the whole of Italy, with nine teams from various regions set to challenge the San Marino side. Specifically, the teams registered for the tournament are: Rimini Calcio, ASD Albano Primavera, ASD Sport"in" Veneto, Associazione Fuorigioco ODV, Insuperabili Genova, Polisportiva Olimpia, Empoli FS – Integra Sport, Sportinsieme Castellarano, ASD Calcio Veneto. The competition is fully part of the FSGC’s social responsibility projects.
As can easily be understood, this event has a much broader scope than purely sporting competition and will also involve the highest institutions of San Marino: Their Excellencies the Captains Regent H.E. Oscar Mina and H.E. Paolo Rondelli, who will have lunch with the participants and the leadership of the San Marino Football Federation, sharing a convivial moment with all the athletes arriving from different parts of Italy and from San Marino.
There is a full programme of matches: on Saturday morning and afternoon the qualifying phase will take place (from 9:30 to 18:30, with a break for lunch with the distinguished guests). The final phase, culminating in the crowning of the winning club, is scheduled for Sunday morning.
