Women’s Under-16: Titane on target in Romania’s 6-1 win

The second international friendly played in Buftea also goes the way of hosts Romania, who run out winners with a final score of 6-1. Bortea opens the scoring before Cândea doubles the lead on 16 minutes. In between, there is a good move from Elisa Terenzi – wayward with her shot – and a fine save by Arianna Forcellini. The Titane threaten again through Paone, well picked out by the ever-lively Terenzi, but the Romanian defence closes down effectively. After two stops by Forcellini on Banciu and – above all – on Colibaba’s lob, Romania make it three through Olah. Before the interval San Marino go close again with Paone, who can only win a corner. In the closing stages of the first half, Damaschin’s side extend their lead thanks to a second goal from Olah and a strike from Banciu – making it 5-0 at the halfway mark. After the restart, Forcellini denies Cândea a brace before being beaten by Zamfir. Between those two moments, Elisa Terenzi crashes a shot off the crossbar of substitute Ştefan, who will ultimately be unable to preserve her clean sheet. It is indeed Terenzi who scores in the 74th minute with a sensational goal, latching onto a flicked header backwards from the Romanian midfield that releases the striker, who shows great pace to outstrip Nicolae and punish Ştefan with a perfect curling effort from the right edge of the penalty area. Nothing doing for the Romanian goalkeeper, beaten by the driven arc of Elisa Terenzi’s shot, which will go down as the first international goal scored outside the Republic of San Marino by the Women’s Under-16.
