Under-21s: two-year cycle ends against Cyprus. Cecchetti: “We’re aiming to get a result”

The San Marino Under-21 National Team landed in Larnaca last night and will face Cyprus tomorrow in the final match of the current UEFA European Championship qualifying campaign. After back-to-back home games at the Stadium, Matteo Cecchetti’s Titani will complete their two-year cycle away from home – at the AEK Arena in Larnaca. Looking ahead to tomorrow night’s match (kick-off 20:00 local time, 19:00 in San Marino), the Biancoazzurri coach does not mince his words: “I told the boys that our target has to be to win. We want to catch Cyprus in the table and get off the bottom. We know we are up against a quality side, as they showed in the reverse fixture at the Stadium. Since then we have played a lot of matches that have helped us grow. Tomorrow we will need to show that we have closed that gap on them.” In their most recent outings the Titani have been creating more and more, and have gone close to ending a goal drought in qualifying that has lasted for over two years (San Marino–Türkiye 1-5 on 10 September 2024). “We are growing game after game. Compared to our domestic context, on the international stage we always have to raise the bar and do that little bit extra. I see the lads fully convinced and determined to reach our target. This will be our last chance to get on the scoresheet. The group has also recovered well physically and is in good shape; I’m sure they will all deliver a big performance tomorrow.”

The match between Cyprus and San Marino will also be streamed live on Titani.tv (content available only in San Marino and Italy).
