BKN301 Championship: the chase resumes for leaders Virtus
After the last international break of the season – which brought fond memories for San Marino football – the BKN301 Championship returns with matchday ten. The chase resumes, then, for league leaders Virtus, who top the table with a perfect record. Luigi Bizzotto’s Neroverdi will face Folgore on Sunday (kick-off at 15:00 in Fiorentino) in search of a tenth consecutive victory. Lining up against them will be Oscar Lasagni’s side, coming off a difficult spell with just one point from their last three games. Behind Virtus sits a quartet of chasing sides, all of whom will take the field in Saturday’s early fixtures. Tre Penne – in second place, four points off the summit – face a Domagnano team whose form has been inconsistent. Ceci’s side can boast the best attack – 32 goals scored – with Badalassi leading the scoring charts (9 goals) and, like Virtus, still unbeaten. The Giallorossi – currently 11th – are in the play-off positions for now, but the table is very tight and it is naturally too early to talk about the post-season. They play in Fiorentino at 15:00. Just below the reigning champions are La Fiorita and Tre Fiori, level on points and meeting at 15:00 in Montecchio in the standout fixture of this tenth round. Both yellow-and-blue sides are enjoying an excellent run of form – including in the Coppa Titano – and do not want to drop points. It will also be a duel between strikers: Giacomo Cecconi for Tre Fiori (9 goals and joint-top scorer with Badalassi) and the Ambrosini-Olcese partnership (ten goals between them), always ready to make their mark. Completing the quartet are Beppe Angelini’s Murata, fifth on 21 points. The Bianconeri have started racking up goals and wins again – two in a row – and tomorrow they will take on Juvenes-Dogana. Amati’s team sit seventh in the group but have not won for over a month (21 October against Fiorentino). Kick-off at 15:00 in Acquaviva.
Two games are scheduled for 18:15 tomorrow. In Montecchio, Cosmos will look to continue their climb towards the upper reaches of the table, building on the excellent performance produced in the last round against Juvenes-Dogana. Berardi’s side – sixth with fourteen points – will, however, have to be wary of San Marino Academy’s hunger for a reaction. Cecchetti’s men have collected only two points in their last five outings and are searching for valuable points to lift morale and to improve a league position that currently sees them second from bottom. Another key clash in the lower reaches of the table is the meeting between San Giovanni and Faetano, the other 18:15 Saturday fixture, to be played in Acquaviva. Just a single point separates the two sides – eight for the Rossoneri and seven for the Gialloblu – and a win would represent a major leap forward for either, including in terms of the play-off race.
In addition to the aforementioned Virtus match, two other games will complete Sunday’s programme for matchday ten. At 15:00 in Montecchio, Libertas and Fiorentino will do battle, coming into the game in very different form: Sperindio’s Granata – on nine points – are unbeaten in three, while Camillini’s Rossoblu have managed just one win in their last five. Also at 15:00, but in Domagnano, Cailungo and Pennarossa will face off. Protti’s Rossoverdi occupy a comfortable mid-table position (eighth with 10 points) while Nobile’s Biancorossi are still searching for their first points of the season after a difficult start that has left them bottom of the standings.
