BKN301 Championship: Di Maio settles the big match with Pennarossa at the death

Thanks to a 92nd-minute header from Roberto Di Maio, Cosmos claim the big match against Pennarossa, valid for Matchday 5 of the BKN301 Sammarinese Championship. The yellow-greens thus return to winning ways after last week’s setback against La Fiorita and stay in the slipstream – albeit three points adrift – of the Montegiardino side, who top the table with a perfect record. Nicola Berardi’s team prevail only at the very end, in a balanced contest that remained in the balance right up to the final whistle. Pennarossa, for their part, pushed hard but the league’s best attack failed to find the net today. It is the first defeat of the season for the Chiesanuova side, and the red-and-whites are overtaken by just a single point in the standings by Virtus, who win in Montecchio against Juvenes-Dogana (3-1). Bizzotto’s Neroverdi maintain their good run of form and, in less than an hour, put three past the Serravalle side. The opener comes early on through Benincasa, sharp in attacking the near post and heading in Sabato’s cross. Virtus double their lead on 23 minutes with a fine edge-of-the-box strike from Albini, which finds the net behind Gentilini. Amati’s team react and reopen the game at the start of the second half with a header from Merli. But it proves a flash in the pan for Juvenes-Dogana, because a few minutes later Alessandro Golinucci kills off the contest, reading Buonocunto’s pass to perfection and making it 3-1. Goals and entertainment in the clash between Fiorentino and Faetano, where the Gialloblù score five and take home their first win of the season (2-5). Yet it is Fiorentino who break the deadlock right at the start thanks to a delightful lob from Torsani after a lay-off by Castellazzi. However, it is only an illusion for the Rossoblù, because in the 20th minute Ferrario levels with a header from a Mema cross. The same Ferrario hits the target again three minutes later, putting the Gialloblù in front. Faetano also make it three towards the end of the first half through Mema, who cannot miss into an empty net after a good team move. The fourth for the Gialloblù comes after the break courtesy of Pini (62'), who heads in from close range after Ferrario’s shot is parried by Rossoblù goalkeeper Bianchi. The fifth Faetano goal arrives in similar fashion: Ferrario shoots, Bianchi spills it and Composto has no trouble making it 5-1. In the closing stages Fiorentino pull one back through Marino (88'). The Rossoblù remain bottom of the group, level with Cailungo (who had a bye this round) on just one point. Faetano, fresh from a fine win in the Coppa Titano in midweek, now also taste their first joy in the league. The BKN301 Sammarinese Championship will resume next weekend (14-15-16 October) with Matchday 6.
