League: title race goes on, Domagnano-Faetano could be decisive for the play-offs
With 180 minutes to go, the Campionato Sammarinese BKN301 is about to experience the final decisive moments of a season in doubt right to the end. The focus is naturally on the title race between Tre Penne and Cosmos who, trading wins and goals, are separated at the top by just a single point. Out in front are Stefano Ceci’s side, who will travel to Montecchio tomorrow at 15:00 to face Pennarossa. The reverse fixture ended 4-1 to the Biancazzurri, who have yet to lose a match in 2023. It is a different story for the Biancorossi, who have picked up just one win in their last five. In terms of the play-offs, however, not all is lost for the Chiesanuova side, who currently sit 11th – the last position granting access to the post-season.
Chasing Tre Penne, as mentioned, are Nicola Berardi’s Cosmos, who will play at the same time – and will also do so on the final matchday, with date and venue still to be confirmed – against Folgore (Acquaviva, 15:00). Buoyed by the numbers – best defence and best attack, with Prandelli up to 20 goals and increasingly clear at the top of the scoring charts – the Gialloverdi will be doing everything to claim yet another victory while keeping an eye on news from their rivals’ pitch. Omar Lepri’s Folgore, for their part, are already sure of a play-off place and currently occupy seventh position. The Falciano outfit must, however, watch their backs from Domagnano, two points behind. The Giallorossi take on Faetano on Sunday (Montecchio, 15:00) in a clash that could prove decisive in the play-off race. The Wolves, after their rest week, have Folgore in their sights, while Faetano are desperately hunting points to get back into the post-season places. Having squandered a two-goal lead against Virtus, the Gialloblu are currently 13th and therefore out. A win would see them draw level with Pennarossa in the valuable 11th spot, with the added advantage in the head-to-head record.
Also seeking more crucial points are San Giovanni, who after their midweek draw with La Fiorita will face Virtus tomorrow (Fiorentino, 15:00). The Rossoneri are two points adrift of Pennarossa but have not won since 7 March. Lining up against them will be the Neroverdi, virtually assured of finishing the regular season in fifth place and already with one eye on the BKN301 Coppa Titano final, where they will meet Tre Penne.
Fully involved in the play-off battle are Murata, who after winning last Tuesday’s head-to-head with Fiorentino now meet an in-form Libertas tomorrow, although the Granata are already guaranteed sixth place. A victory for the Bianconeri, on the other hand, could see them overtake Juvenes-Dogana (who have a bye) and put pressure on Folgore’s seventh place as well.
A fascinating contest is also in store between La Fiorita and Tre Fiori, two sides who have been forced to bow out of the title race in favour of Tre Penne and Cosmos. Manfredini’s team, the reigning champions, already know they are out of the running because they will sit out the final round; a similar situation applies to Andy Selva’s side, currently fourth and six points off the summit: although the maths do not yet rule out the Fiorentino outfit, their chances of overhauling the two teams fully in contention for the title are as good as zero. The all-gialloblù showdown, which could well be repeated in the play-offs, is scheduled for Acquaviva on Sunday at 15:00.
Rounding off Matchday 29 is the match between Fiorentino and Cailungo, to be played on Sunday at the Stadio Federico Crescentini in Fiorentino at 15:00. Protti’s Rossoverdi are now out of contention and occupy bottom place; the Rossoblu, on the other hand, absolutely must win to keep alive their hopes of reaching the post-season, which is currently five points away.
