Campionato: La Fiorita finish 4th, Folgore’s super Augusto not enough

La Fiorita and Folgore both won their respective fixtures in the early kick-offs of the 30th and final matchday of the Campionato Sammarinese regular season, but it is the Gialloblù from Montegiardino who secure fourth place thanks to a better goal difference. In Montecchio, however, it was Fiorentino who struck first: on 11 minutes, a free-kick from Marco Evaristi landed in the box and hit Cicarelli’s arm. For Andorran referee Vilanova, it was a penalty. Abouzziane stepped up and made it 1-0. Later on, La Fiorita drew level from another spot kick: just after the half-hour mark, Costantini handled a goal-bound header from Semprini. The referee had no doubts, pointed to the spot and sent off the Rossoblù defender. Affonso made no mistake, converting for 1-1. After the break, the winner for Ceci’s Gialloblù arrived early in the second half: a brilliant ball from Affonso (his 10th assist, the best in the league) perfectly picked out Zaccaria, who timed his run superbly and finished the move with a delicate touch past Berardi. La Fiorita won 2-1 and held on to fourth place, while Fiorentino finished seventh: in the play-off quarter-finals, kicking off in a week’s time, the two sides will meet again after today’s clash.

The most entertaining match of the afternoon was undoubtedly in Acquaviva, where Folgore beat Domagnano in a remarkable 7-3 thriller. The first half was packed with goals and fine play, with Lasagni’s team taking the lead. On 12 minutes, Fall played a ball in behind for Augusto Garcia Rufer, who brought it down, drove forward and then skipped past Maggioli before rolling home the opener for Folgore. Domagnano replied soon after with a powerful right-footed strike from distance by Fusco that left Panfili – starting today in goal instead of De Angelis – with no chance. The tempo stayed extremely high because less than a minute later Folgore were back in front: once again the move ran through the Fall–Augusto axis, with a deft pass from the midfielder for the striker, who beat Maggioli one-on-one to score his 22nd league goal of the season. The momentum was firmly with the Falciano club and they struck again on 37 minutes: a cross from the left by Facchetti found Malaponti, who controlled well before lifting a perfect lob over Maggioli. A thrilling first half ended with Bonetti’s penalty, pulling one back for Domagnano and sending the teams into the break at 2-3. The second half was just as eventful, with Folgore managing to find the decisive surge to wrap up the three points. On 54 minutes, Malaponti scored again (a brace for him), reacting quickest to fire home after an initial effort by Facchetti had been saved by Maggioli. Two minutes later it was Augusto on the scoresheet once more: in superb form today, the striker completed his hat-trick to make it 2-5. The former San Giovanni forward was still not done, and on 74 minutes he added his fourth from a Ura assist, moving joint top of the scoring charts with Bonetti (both on 24 goals). The goal fest in Acquaviva continued as Buda reduced the deficit for Domagnano (with Bonetti only centimetres away from nicking the goal off his team-mate), but the final word belonged to Folgore, who rounded it off through Ura in stoppage time. It finished 7-3 to the Giallorossi in Acquaviva: a glut of goals that still wasn’t enough for the Giallorossoneri to climb into fourth place – which belongs to La Fiorita thanks to a superior goal difference. Domagnano, despite the defeat, end the season in sixth place and will, intriguingly, face Folgore again in seven days’ time.

The only draw of the afternoon came between San Marino Academy and Cailungo – with both sides already out of the play-off race. In the first half the Titani were on top, with a big chance just before the half-hour from a Righi free-kick, but Gallinetta produced a flying save to keep it out. The Cailungo goalkeeper was decisive again on 68 minutes, denying a fine turn and shot from Meloni. After sustained pressure, Di Maio’s men deservedly took the lead on 72 minutes: from the by-line, Protti cut the ball back for Marco Casadei, who made no mistake from close range. Late on, Meloni came close to sealing it, but Gallinetta once again rescued his side, who then managed to equalise on the ensuing move: a pinpoint cross from Sarti picked out Persichilli, who adjusted his body and struck on the volley to score a stunning goal. It finished 1-1 in Fiorentino. The season also comes to an end for San Marino Academy and Cailungo, both missing out on the post-season.
