Championship play-offs: quarter-finals heat up

Everything is still open going into the second legs of the quarter-finals of the Campionato Sammarinese play-offs, to be played on Tuesday and Wednesday evening (20:45). The first clash is between Folgore and Domagnano at the Acquaviva ground. Lasagni’s side lead 1-0 thanks to Pancotti’s first-leg penalty. A draw, or even a defeat by fewer than two goals, would therefore be enough for them to go through, by virtue of their better league position. The race for the Golden Boot is also wide open, with Bonetti and Augusto Garcia Rufer battling it out for the award (both currently on 24 goals). A tough task, then, for Domagnano, who this season have yet to beat the Giallorossoneri. Fiorentino and La Fiorita will also lock horns at the Dogana ground on the same evening. Ceci’s men won the first leg 1-0, thanks to Barretta’s goal straight from a corner. The situation is therefore identical to Folgore’s: a draw or a defeat by fewer than two goals would be enough for La Fiorita to reach the semi-finals. Fiorentino have already beaten the Gialloblù 1-0 this season in the first half of the regular season, but this time they will need to do even better if they want to go through.

On Wednesday evening, Juvenes Dogana and Virtus will meet at the Dogana ground. The two sides come into the game after a goalless first leg, albeit one full of incident. The Neroverdi will in fact have to do without their first-choice goalkeeper Passaniti, sent off in the first leg after a clash with Gianmaria Borghini. Everything is therefore still to play for between the two teams, with the Serravalle outfit needing a win if they are to make the semi-finals. At the same time, but at the Acquaviva ground, Cosmos and Tre Penne will battle it out. After a goalless first leg, the return is expected to be a livelier affair, with the Gialloverdi obliged to win if they want to progress. The match will also be broadcast on FIFA+.
