Championship: thrilling draw between Tre Penne and Virtus, Tre Fiori win and edge closer to the title

It was a night that smiled on league leaders Tre Fiori to wrap up Matchday 27 of the Campionato Sammarinese. Girolomoni’s Gialloblù ran out 3-0 winners over Murata and, thanks to the draw between pursuers Virtus and Tre Penne, extend their lead at the top and can now see the league title even closer. We start with the leaders, in action in Montecchio. In the first part of the match Murata also did very well and, despite propping up the table, played openly and caused Nardi plenty of problems on more than one occasion (first with Tahiri, then with Labas). Tre Fiori, however, stayed calm and on 22 minutes a challenge between Isaraj and Censoni resulted in a penalty for the Gialloblù. Bernardi stepped up and sent Sias the wrong way from the spot. Just a few minutes later the leaders doubled their advantage: a corner from Sami was met by the head of the ever-reliable Prandelli – presented before kick-off as Player of the Month for March – who moved on to 19 league goals. With a two-goal cushion, Girolomoni’s side were able to manage proceedings with greater composure. The game became even more straightforward on 71 minutes when, again from a dead ball – a corner from Braschi – it was Rea who beat Sias to make it 3-0 and effectively wrap up the contest early. The leaders return to winning ways and move three points clear of Virtus with three rounds to go. The big match in Acquaviva between Virtus and Tre Penne ended all square (1-1) in one of the most entertaining games of the season. It was the side from Città who broke the deadlock after just 120 seconds: a long ball forward from Pastorelli – his seventh assist of the season – dropped straight into the box for Casadio, who brought it down and beat Passaniti with a right-footed finish. Virtus replied on the quarter-hour mark through Zenoni, but the game changed on 25 minutes. Montanari brought down Berardi as he broke through on goal, and Avoni produced a straight red card for the Neroverdi midfielder (facing his former club). From the resulting free-kick, though, Passaniti flew across to deny Turchetta. The match was played at a ferocious tempo with chances raining down. On 33 minutes Berardi tried his luck again from another Pastorelli pass, but Scappini soon responded at the other end, rounding Migani only to be denied at the crucial moment by Ferrani. After the restart Tre Penne pushed to kill the game off, but on 62 minutes Passaniti – one of the standout performers on the night – beat away a powerful effort from Berardi from the edge of the area. Virtus were under the cosh but on 66 minutes they found the spark that brought the equaliser: a cross from the right by Lombardi picked out the late, unchecked run of Golinucci, who picked out the far corner to make it 1-1. The defending champions were buoyed and then almost pulled off a remarkable turnaround despite being a man down, first through Piscitella (70’) and then Buonocunto (76’). The clearest chance arrived on 83 minutes, when Battistini’s thunderous right-footer was heading for the top corner but Migani produced an exceptional save to keep Virtus from going in front. After three minutes of added time, Avoni brought proceedings to a close. In the table nothing changes – Virtus remain second, Tre Penne third – but the title dream slips further away for both. The only thing missing between Folgore and Cosmos was the goal. The derby at the “Ezio Conti” in Dogana between the two sides from the Castello of Serravalle finished goalless, but there was no shortage of drama. In the first half it was the Falciano outfit who had the better of it, trying their luck first through Miori (32’) and then Raschi (39’). After the break the match really took off and Semprini preserved the stalemate on the hour mark, saving Ura’s powerful right-footer. On 77 minutes there was a double quick-fire chance for Lasagni’s side – the former Gialloverde coach – first with Castorina and then Pancotti. Folgore believed more and more, and on 79 minutes Miori’s cross-shot crashed against the bar. At the death Cosmos tried to spring a surprise on their neighbours through Gjurchinoski, but De Angelis stood firm at his near post and then, above all, on the striker’s second attempt, with a monstrous save that even diverted the ball onto the upright. The last chance fell to Augusto Garcia Rufer who, from the move immediately following De Angelis’ heroics, fired just wide. It finished 0-0 in Dogana. There was far less incident in Fiorentino between Libertas and Juvenes Dogana. It was Buda’s Granata who had reason to celebrate – a third win in their last four – as they claimed victory thanks to a moment of brilliance from Fabio Ramon Tomassini. The decisive goal arrived on 69 minutes, when Severi picked out the San Marino striker in the inside-left channel; the number seven in Granata advanced and then unleashed a right-footed strike from distance that gave Matteo Battistini no chance. With this win, Libertas pull clear of Juvenes Dogana in the standings and move up to ninth place.
