Coach Education: UEFA visit to San Marino
It was an intense two days that the Head of the Coach Education Department, Carlo Chiarabini, had to coordinate at the FSGC headquarters. Paying a visit for an all-round exchange on 22 and 23 April was one of UEFA’s leading experts on Education, Genadie Scurtul, appointed as mentor to the San Marino Football Federation at the start of 2024. The main role of this figure is to support the comprehensive development of Coach Education, starting from an analysis of the current situation and looking ahead to the future and the needs of the modern game. The visit was aimed at launching the process of reassessing FSGC membership within the UEFA Coaching Convention, the key reference framework for all member associations. Being part of it and meeting the required criteria and outlined standards is crucial in order to continue accessing the programmes and resources that UEFA dedicates to this strategic area. The Progetto CEF staff members were also involved, in their capacity as Coach Educators in grassroots youth football.
Over the two days, the UEFA expert attended two sessions of the UEFA B course, which is currently underway, and gave a very positive assessment of the quality of the activities delivered. Several important innovations are also on the horizon, which will be further explored by the parties over the coming months. The next step will be to draw up a four-year plan, with new objectives and new challenges, to raise the bar even higher and be ready to meet the new requirements that European football’s governing body will be putting on the agenda as early as 2025.
