Coppa Titano BKN301, first legs of Round of 16: Faetano and Juvenes-Dogana claim victory

After no fewer than eight goals across three matches on Tuesday evening, last night’s rescheduled first legs of the Coppa Titano BKN301 Round of 16 produced two important wins – one by the narrowest of margins – and two draws that leave everything to be decided in the return fixtures. The first win went to Faetano, significant for at least two reasons: it is the first victory of the season for the Gialloblù and it virtually seals progression to the next round thanks to a 3-1 success over Murata. Danilo Girolomoni’s side broke the deadlock on 35 minutes through a penalty converted by Mema. Murata reacted and levelled just before the interval through Gaiani. In the second half, Faetano struck twice in quick succession: Ferraro (65') and Mema again (71') put the Gialloblù firmly in control and within sight of the quarter-finals. Should they go through, Faetano will face the winners of San Giovanni-Folgore. In that tie everything is still wide open, as at the Ezio Conti in Dogana the two sides played out a 0-0 draw. Early on, San Giovanni had a great chance to take the lead, but Strologo was denied from the penalty spot by Giallorossoneri goalkeeper Pollini. Little else happened thereafter, the balance held, and everything will be decided in the second leg in two weeks’ time. In the lower half of the draw, the other draw came in the big match between Tre Penne and Pennarossa. Both boasting a 100% record in the league, the teams from Città and Chiesanuova cancelled each other out and, despite an impressive array of forwards (Pennarossa currently have the best attack in the league), the contest finished goalless. Juvenes-Dogana, on the other hand, secured a precious win as they came from behind against Cailungo to edge the tie 2-1. The Rossoverdi, still chasing their first win of the season, broke the deadlock right at the end of the first half through Bara. The Dogana side responded immediately at the start of the second half with Benedetti (47'), and ten minutes from time they found the decisive strike through Salvemini (81'). The second legs of the Round of 16 in the Coppa Titano will be played on 18 and 19 October, with kick-off once again at 20:45.
