Coppa Titano: Faetano squeeze into quarter-finals, Tre Fiori and Tre Penne also go through
Danilo Girolomoni’s Tre Fiori need just half an hour of the second leg against Libertas to seal their place in the 2024-25 Coppa Titano quarter-finals. The first-leg victory is repeated, with the Gialloblù racing into a 3-0 lead inside only 34 minutes. Benedettini opens the scoring early on at the end of a fine solo move, while Aguzzi doubles the advantage from close range, making the most of Guerra’s first assist of the evening. The San Marino full-back then also sets up Ericchiello for the third just after the half-hour mark. In the second half Tre Fiori ease off the gas, with one eye on cards and the other on managing their energy. Even so, the best chances after the break still fall to the Fiorentino side, drawing some sharp saves from Del Prete. It’s a comfortable night for the Gialloblù, who will now face the winners of Domagnano vs San Giovanni.
The tempo is much more subdued in Montecchio, where Cailungo vs Tre Penne is the second act of a tie whose outcome was already virtually decided. The Biancazzurri had all but wrapped up qualification with a 6-0 first-leg win and this evening, like Cailungo, they play out a match with few major talking points. After the break come the goals – and the fog: Magrotti breaks the deadlock, before a fine header from Gori levels it up. The former Cailungo man then completes his brace to restore Tre Penne’s lead, who pull away late on through strikes from Cardellino and Nigretti – almost swallowed up by the thick fog. Nicola Berardi’s side now wait for the Murata-Folgore tie to be settled to find out their next opponents in the competition.
Far more compelling and evenly balanced is Pennarossa vs Faetano, which resumes from the narrow first-leg success of Ricchiuti’s men – themselves beaten in the league just four days earlier. An enforced in-game change for Brisigotti complicates the Gialloblù’s evening, although they are still the better side in the first half. Even so, the clearest chances fall to Pennarossa, who somehow fail to take the lead through Gavelli, inadvertently played clean through on Forconesi by an Acquarelli back-pass. Both attacks misfire again early in the second half: Jabi cannot convert from a promising position, while at the other end Faetano test Barbieri through Capriotti. Pennarossa’s comeback hopes are dealt a major blow by Martini’s 55th-minute red card. Faetano are unable to make the most of their opponents’ confusion, wasting a big opportunity through the ever-dangerous Capriotti. At the other end Salah tries his luck from long range, while Faetano continue to squander chances to put qualification beyond doubt. As a result, on 87 minutes Ricchiuti’s side are forced into a goal-line clearance to prevent Famiglietti’s surging move – in which he even rounds the keeper – from taking the tie into extra time. It proves the final twist in a clash rich in chances but poor in goals, to the delight of Faetano, who clinch their spot in the quarter-finals where they will meet the winners of Cosmos vs Virtus.
