The Coppa Titano will be decided between Virtus and La Fiorita
There are no surprises in the second legs of the BKN301 Coppa Titano semi-finals, ties which Virtus and La Fiorita approached with the cushion of emphatic wins in the first leg. Badalassi gives false hope to a Tre Penne side chasing the perfect game and needing to overturn the 4-1 defeat suffered in the first meeting. After Vivan comes off his line, Lombardi combines with Dormi and swings a cross to the far post, where Badalassi gets in front of everyone and heads home from close range. It proves to be a flash in the pan for the club from Città, struggling to contain the powerful runs of Niang and Guidi. The equaliser, as early as the 18th minute, comes from the penalty spot, won by the latter and converted by Niang, who doubles the tally two minutes later by latching onto Zampano’s long ball and profiting from a ricochet with Lombardi – who protested that his opponent had used his hand to bring the ball under control before firing in with his left foot. Before the break, the woodwork denies Niang his hat-trick, while Guidi fails to turn into an empty net a perfect assist from Zampano. At the other end, Tre Penne appeal for two possible handballs by Mazzotti, but the referee waves play on in both cases.
At the start of the second half, La Fiorita definitively close the contest with a 3-1 goal from Amati, who had also starred in the first leg with a brace. After a fine reflex save by Migani on Guidi’s angled effort, the Gialloblù win the ball back high up the pitch through Amati himself, who goes it alone, winning a challenge with Vandi before beating the keeper at the near post. Earlier, there had been a chance from a corner for the club from Città, but Lombardi’s header failed to hit the target. In the closing stages tempers flare in the Tre Penne ranks: Alex Gasperoni and Lombardi both pay the price, sent off in the 72nd and 80th minute respectively. In between comes Rinaldi’s missed opportunity to notch La Fiorita’s fourth. The match thus seals La Fiorita’s passage to the BKN301 Coppa Titano final, their third win in as many meetings this season with Tre Penne. The next clash, already scheduled for next Sunday, will put huge points on the line in the title race.
At Montecchio, the evening does not begin under the best of omens for Tre Fiori, needing to come back from two goals down against Virtus and forced to do without Cirrottola due to an injury picked up in the warm-up. Fedeli starts, but in the opening quarter of an hour it is all Virtus. Efforts from Sabato and Tortori call Nardi into action, though he is never truly stretched. At the other end, Passaniti does well to parry a powerful angled drive from Islamaj just before the half-hour. Ten minutes later Fedeli plays Bernardi through on goal, but Piscaglia’s last-ditch intervention snuffs out the danger. Seconds later, strike partner Michele Rinaldi becomes the main man in the opposition box. The centre-back rises highest to meet Buonocunto’s inswinging delivery, winning the aerial duel with Varrella and guiding his header into Nardi’s bottom corner.
Ten minutes of the second half are enough for Virtus to make sure of their place in the BKN301 Coppa Titano final. After a couple of chances go begging, the Neroverdi double their lead on 56 minutes through Tortori. Much of the credit goes to Gori, who wins the ball back right by the by-line before putting it on a plate for his team-mate to tap in. With qualification all but secured and a four-goal aggregate lead, Virtus focus on game management and avoiding bookings. As a result, Tre Fiori repeatedly go close to scoring: De Lucia heads just over, while Mazzotti blazes over with the goal at his mercy. Fedeli fares no better, firing off target after good work from Micchi on the edge of the box. Once they have weathered this spell, Virtus resume control and go close to a third through Pecci first and then Angeli. Tre Fiori’s luckless night refuses to turn even with the final kick: Passaniti produces a stunning save to keep out Micchi’s diving header, and then is grateful to see Islamaj’s thunderous follow-up cannon off the crossbar. Virtus will therefore defend the Coppa Titano they won last year, heading into the showpiece against La Fiorita in what is an enthralling league duel set to gain a further chapter at the tail end of the season.
